Hi everyone, I'm doing some local research on filming locations and I keep coming across William Hill's name in relation to Stratford. I'm trying to figure out if he actually has any personal ties to the area, or if it's just a coincidence mentioned in some old articles. I'm particularly interested in knowing if he ever lived here or if any of his projects were filmed near the Shakespeare connection. Any local knowledge or links to old interviews would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I remember reading a snippet in a local history blog years ago that mentioned him passing through for a shoot, but it was vague. It was for a period piece, I think. I can't recall the year or the specific project, which makes it hard to verify. Maybe check the Stratford archives for film permits from the 90s or early 2000s.

I disagree with the 'coincidence' theory. My cousin who works in local theatre production said that while William Hill might not have lived there, his team did use some of the less-known village backdrops for a documentary about British culture. It wasn't a major Shakespeare connection, but it was filmed locally.

I heard a wild story once that he was consulting on a historical drama about the Elizabethan era, which naturally puts him in Stratford. But this was hearsay, and I couldn't find any proof, so take it with a huge grain of salt. It sounds like a fun piece of local folklore, though.

Speaking of the documentary, I actually spoke to a retired local film coordinator who mentioned that while William Hill wasn't a resident, his production company did rent some equipment and use a few properties for a segment that focused on the cultural impact of Shakespeare's works on modern life. It was a small, uncredited appearance, but it happened.
