Hi everyone, my partner and I are planning a trip to the area next month and Malpas Hotel seems like a good base. I've read some mixed reviews about the location, and I was hoping someone who has stayed recently could offer some advice. Specifically, how easy is it to get around from the hotel? Are there reliable taxi services, or is public transport better? Also, we are really looking for recommendations for local, non-touristy restaurants within a short radius. Any suggestions on hidden gems or places with good value would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The location is actually fantastic. We walked everywhere for the first two days. Just be mindful that the main drag gets very crowded in the evenings.

For transport, skip the taxis unless you're in a rush. The local bus system is surprisingly efficient and much cheaper. Just ask the concierge for the nearest stop and the route number.

Regarding food, you absolutely must try 'El Rincón del Sabor' off the main square. It's a tiny place, no fancy decor, but the paella is legendary. Cash only, by the way.

Short answer: Buses. Seriously. Don't rely on taxis for daily travel; they can be pricey and sometimes hard to flag down.

I totally agree about the mixed reviews. It's a bit of a walk to the main sights, but the hotel itself is lovely and quiet. We found a great local bakery called 'Panadería Artesana' just two blocks away. Their bread is incredible!

Is it safe to walk at night? I'm worried about getting lost.

It's safe enough if you stick to the main illuminated streets. We were careful, and generally, the area is quite calm. Just don't wander into the industrial zone after dark.

For a non-touristy dinner, try 'Tasca Vieja'. It's tucked away on a side street and specializes in regional tapas. It feels very authentic and the staff were super friendly.

The bus system is fine, but if you're carrying luggage, a dedicated airport transfer service might be worth the extra money just for convenience. Otherwise, walking is best.

I recommend checking out the market near the river. You can grab cheap, fresh snacks and it's a great way to see local life without going to a formal restaurant.

Wow, 'El Rincón del Sabor' sounds perfect. Do you know if they take cards or if I need to carry cash for the paella?

Yes, definitely cash. And honestly, even the small local shops prefer cash. It's just a good rule of thumb for the whole area.

We used a ride-share app called 'LocalGo' for most of our trips. It was much more reliable and cheaper than hailing a random taxi on the street. Download it before you arrive!

If you are looking for a quick, cheap bite, look for places that have a line of locals. That is always the best indicator of good food and value.

To answer your transport question: if you are staying at Malpas, walking is the primary mode of transport for everything within a 2-3 km radius. It's beautiful and you'll discover things you'd miss otherwise. For further distances, the bus is your friend.

I had a terrible experience with a taxi driver who tried to overcharge us. Always agree on a price before you get in, or use the official app.

For a good value dinner, try the little spot near the church square. It's called 'La Abuela's Kitchen'. They do traditional stews and the portions are huge. Very authentic.

I think the reviews are mixed because people are comparing it to hotels in the older, more central districts. It's a good base, but you need to be prepared for a bit of a walk to the main action. Focus on the local life around you, not just the tourist traps.
