My partner and I are finally planning a trip to the Riviera, and we are very excited! We've been doing a lot of research on the hotels, but we are completely overwhelmed by the options for casinos. We are looking for a mix of luxury and fun, but we are absolute beginners when it comes to gambling. Could anyone who has stayed at the Riviera Hotel and Casino give us some advice? Specifically, are the slot machines easier to navigate, or should we focus on table games like blackjack? Any tips on setting a budget or avoiding common pitfalls would be hugely appreciated before we book anything.

Welcome to the Riviera! Don't stress too much. It's all about having fun.

For absolute beginners, I highly recommend starting with the slot machines. They are very intuitive, and you can control your risk level easily. Don't feel pressured to jump straight into Blackjack; take your time and watch how the dealers work.

Budgeting tip: Always set a 'loss limit' before you sit down. When that money is gone, you walk away, no questions asked. This is the biggest pitfall for newbies.

I found the table games, especially blackjack, are more engaging if you know the basic strategy. There are plenty of free guides online. It takes practice, but it's worth it.

I agree with the slot advice. They are less intimidating. I spent my first night just playing low-stakes video poker, and it was relaxing. It's a great way to ease into the atmosphere.

Regarding Blackjack, it's a skill game, not pure chance. If you learn the basic strategy chart, you significantly improve your odds. It's a fun challenge for a couple.

My advice is to wander. Don't pick one area. Walk through the casino floor, see what catches your eye, and play small amounts at different things. It makes the experience feel less structured.

I think the slot machines are better for a first visit. They are more immediate fun and require zero prior knowledge. Blackjack can feel high-pressure when you're learning.

Don't forget to look at the non-gambling amenities. The restaurants and shows are often the best part of the trip. Save some of your budget for a nice dinner!

How do I know what a 'pitfall' is in this context? Am I just gambling too much?

It's more than just money. A pitfall is getting caught up in the 'sunk cost fallacy' - thinking you must keep playing because you've already spent so much. Just walk away when you hit your limit.

Just remember to pace yourselves. The Riviera is big, and it's easy to spend hours just walking around the beautiful lobbies and pools, even if you aren't gambling.

We spent a night just on the slots and it was surprisingly fun. I highly recommend trying the video poker machines; they are super easy to understand.

Definitely focus on the experience, not the win. Treat it like entertainment, like seeing a show. Set a fun, non-essential budget for the night.

I found the Blackjack tables were very friendly to beginners. The dealers were patient and happy to explain the rules. It was a great learning environment.

Seriously, take it slow. Enjoy the luxury atmosphere. It's a vacation, not a job. Have an amazing time!
