Hi everyone, my family and I are planning a trip to Hobbs Resort next month, and we are really excited. We've heard great things about the location, but we are struggling a bit with local recommendations. Could anyone who has stayed there recently give us some advice? Specifically, we are looking for family-friendly restaurants that aren't too expensive, and maybe some non-resort activities we can do nearby. We want to experience the local flavor beyond just the resort amenities. Any tips on hidden gems or must-see spots would be greatly appreciated!

Hey! I was there last fall. For food, try 'The Corner Bistro' downtown. It's casual, has great kids' options, and the prices are very reasonable. It feels genuinely local, not touristy.

If you're looking for activities, skip the main strip. Head towards the old Pioneer Trail. It's a beautiful, easy hike that offers amazing views of the valley. Bring snacks and water!

Totally agree about avoiding the resort traps. We found a fantastic little spot called 'Mama Rosa's Tacos.' It's a food truck park just a few blocks away. Super authentic and cheap enough for a family.

Short answer: Visit the local farmers market on Saturday mornings. Best breakfast and local crafts.

Oh, I think 'The Corner Bistro' is overrated. It gets way too crowded, and honestly, the food felt a bit overpriced for what it was. Try 'El Fuego Grill' instead; they have a huge patio and the kids loved the atmosphere.

For activities, rent bikes! The path along the river is perfect for families. You can go for miles and it's much cheaper than any organized tour. Just make sure to check the rental rates beforehand.

We spent a day at the Willow Creek Nature Preserve. It's a bit outside of town, but the trails are well-maintained and the wildlife viewing is incredible. It was a perfect, relaxing day for the whole family.

Are you planning on staying near the main square? If so, walk a few blocks east. You'll find some amazing little family-run bakeries that are perfect for a cheap, sweet treat.

Reply to user 'TravelBugMom': I disagree about the food truck park. While 'Mama Rosa's' is good, it can be hit or miss depending on the day. I'd stick with a sit-down spot like 'El Fuego Grill' for reliability, especially with little kids.

Don't forget to check out the local library's summer program schedule. They often host free workshops or story times that are great for younger kids and really connect you with the local community.

The best hidden gem for food is definitely 'Taco Time.' It's unassuming, but their carnitas are legendary. It's cash only, so be prepared!

We found a great little playground near the old train depot. It's free, and the kids spent hours there. It's a perfect spot to relax after a morning of exploring the market.

Reply to user 'LocalExpert': You are right about the Pioneer Trail, but maybe bring a picnic basket instead of just snacks. Finding a nice spot to eat lunch after hiking makes the whole experience so much better and more memorable for the family.

I recommend checking out the local historical society. They often have guided walking tours that give you a deep dive into the town's history. It's educational and very different from the resort experience.

Short and sweet: River walk. Bike rental. Picnic.

We went to 'The Waterfront Cafe' for lunch. It's right on the river, has a huge kid area, and the menu is varied enough that everyone can find something they like without breaking the bank. It's a little more polished than a food truck, but still feels local.

reply to user 'TravelBugMom': Honestly, if you want 'local flavor,' you have to try the local coffee shop, 'The Daily Grind.' They roast beans right there, and it's a great place to people-watch and grab a quick, affordable bite.

A great activity is visiting the local art studio district. Many artists sell their work directly, and it's a fun, window-shopping experience that supports the local economy. There are also small galleries to browse.

Don't forget to look into public transportation options. Sometimes taking a local bus to a neighborhood you wouldn't otherwise visit can lead you to the best, most authentic dining spots and hidden parks.

We spent Saturday at the community park. They had a petting zoo and some games for the kids. It was low-key, affordable, and the whole atmosphere felt very much like the real town, away from the resort bubble. Highly recommend checking their schedule!
