My main challenge is that the eating room is quite narrow and feels cramped, especially when we have guests over. I've attached some floor plans, but I'm really struggling with the placement of the dining table and chairs. Should I go for a round table to maximize flow, or is a rectangular one better for seating capacity? I'm also trying to incorporate storage without making the space feel cluttered. Any advice on furniture scale or clever lighting solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A round table is almost always best for narrow spaces. It eliminates sharp corners and encourages better flow, making the room feel less like a hallway.

Consider a console table against the longest wall. It provides storage and a place for artwork without dominating the space.

For seating capacity, a rectangular table is better, but only if you can use chairs that tuck completely underneath. Otherwise, they will block the path and make the room feel even smaller.

Understated lighting is key. Skip the massive chandelier and opt for multiple smaller sources, like wall sconces or a beautiful floor lamp, to brighten corners and draw the eye up.

Floating shelves are your best friend for storage. They keep the floor clear, which is crucial for narrow rooms, and they add visual interest.

I think a mix of materials works wonders. Pairing warm wood tones with sleek metal legs keeps the look modern but grounded.

I agree with the round table suggestion. My small dining room felt much more open after switching to a bistro-style round table.

What about using a buffet cabinet that doubles as a bar area? It adds function and storage in one piece.

Are you considering an island-style setup? Even if it's just a narrow serving cart, it can define the eating zone and provide extra prep space.

I'm worried about the chairs. If they are too bulky, they will ruin the flow no matter what table you choose. Look for armless, stackable designs.

To respond to the storage issue: built-in bench seating along one wall is a game changer. It provides seating and hidden storage simultaneously. Make sure the bench depth is proportional to the room width.

Definitely test different furniture scales in person. What looks good on a rendering can feel overwhelming in reality.

Consider mirrors! They reflect light and the space itself, making the room feel dramatically larger and brighter. Place one on the wall opposite the main light source.
