I've been trying to find a reliable source for older foreign films, and I keep hearing mixed reviews about 'hurumovies'. I'm really interested in checking out some classic Italian cinema, but I'm worried about the video quality or if the subtitles are accurate. Has anyone used their service for a long time and can give an honest comparison to major platforms? Specifically, I'm wondering if the library is worth the subscription fee if the streaming quality isn't top-notch. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, stick with Netflix for quality. The effort to stream older foreign films from third-party sites is usually a gamble.

I've streamed a few classic Italian films through them. The library is huge, no doubt, but the video quality is highly inconsistent. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it looks like it was compressed 10 times.

Short answer: No. Netflix has better overall quality and reliability, even if their foreign film selection isn't as deep as what you might find elsewhere.

I found that the subtitle accuracy was my biggest issue with 'hurumovies'. They often get character names or specific phrases wrong, which ruins the viewing experience for classics.

Has anyone tried using a VPN with it? Sometimes the regional streaming quality seems to depend on where you are logging in from. That might improve the bitrate.

I agree with the OP. For a dedicated cinephile looking for pristine quality, I'd recommend checking out Criterion Collection rentals or specialized streaming services instead of relying on general sites.

Wait, are you talking about the paid subscription service or the free, ad-supported version? They are worlds apart in terms of quality control.

The library size is definitely its biggest selling point. If you're looking for niche, obscure titles that Netflix simply doesn't carry, it's worth a shot, even if the quality dips sometimes.

If you are only interested in Italian cinema, you might have better luck searching dedicated film archives or university streaming portals. They are often higher quality than commercial aggregation sites.

I think the issue isn't the platform, but the source material. Many of these older films are digitized from poor quality prints anyway. No streaming service can magically fix that.

Totally agree with the OP. I'd rather pay a little extra for guaranteed 1080p streaming on Netflix than risk a grainy, choppy experience on a third-party site, no matter how good the library is.

I used it for a while. It's okay for casual viewing, but if you are serious about analyzing cinematography or dialogue, the quality degradation is noticeable. It's a compromise you have to make for the sheer volume of content.

Does anyone know if they offer 4K streaming at all? I'm hoping for something that can handle high-resolution viewing for the older films.

Regarding the VPN point - yes, that helped me immensely! I was streaming from the US and the quality was terrible. Switching to a European server immediately boosted the resolution and stability. Definitely try that.

The subscription fee is only worth it if you are desperate for titles that are otherwise impossible to find. Otherwise, the quality risk is too high.

I found that the best experience was using it on a smart TV app rather than a browser. The dedicated app seemed to handle the streaming load better and the interface was less glitchy.

For classic Italian cinema, I personally found that specialized Blu-ray box sets are still superior to any streaming service, regardless of how good the streaming quality is. The physical format preserves the intended viewing experience.

It depends on your definition of 'top-notch.' If top-notch means Hollywood polish, Netflix wins. If it means access to a massive, diverse collection of international cinema, 'hurumovies' is a strong contender, provided you manage your expectations regarding video fidelity.
