I'm planning a trip to San Juan and staying at the Marriott. I know this is a long shot, but I was wondering if the hotel or any local attractions host any themed events, especially anything related to sci-fi or space exploration. I'm a huge fan of Stellaris and was hoping there might be a local geek gathering or perhaps even a themed night at the hotel bar. Has anyone stayed there and noticed any pop culture references or specific activities that might appeal to a gamer? Any tips on how to make the trip feel more immersive would be greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of it. Maybe check local convention listings?

Wow, that's a very niche interest for a resort. I doubt the Marriott hosts anything that specific. They usually focus on general tourist appeal.

You might have better luck checking out local bars or dedicated geek shops downtown rather than relying on the hotel. Sometimes local groups rent out space for themed nights, but it's usually independent of the Marriott.

Short answer: No. Long answer: I stayed there last year for a family trip, and the only 'theme' was tropical cocktails. I wouldn't bet on a sci-fi event happening there.

Did you check the local universities? Sometimes they host sci-fi film screenings or talks that are more likely to attract a Stellaris crowd.

I think you're going to be disappointed. The Marriott is purely corporate resort stuff. Try looking into local board game cafes instead; they might have a general 'space' theme night.

If you're looking for immersive experiences, look into historical tours or nature walks. The vibe is more 'Caribbean adventure' than 'Galactic Empire.'

Totally agree with the previous poster. Focus on the local culture. Maybe a historical reenactment or a rum tasting tour would be more fun.

I found a small group on Facebook for sci-fi fans in Puerto Rico. They sometimes meet at local pubs. You should join that group and ask them directly. It's your best bet!

It's a long shot, but if you visit during a major convention like Comic-Con (if they ever host it), then maybe. Otherwise, stick to the beach.

Does anyone know if the Marriott has a movie theater or a large event space? Maybe a local club could rent it out for a themed night?

I think the local university might be better. They often have student film screenings that are really creative and sometimes touch on sci-fi concepts. Check their event calendar.

Honestly, just enjoy the beautiful island. The Stellaris immersion might be too much effort for a vacation. Relax!

The Marriott is big, so maybe they have a resident entertainment team. You could call the concierge and ask if they are aware of any local geek meetups happening nearby. It costs nothing to ask.

I'd recommend bringing your own game pieces and finding a nice park bench. You can build an entire Stellaris campaign on the sand. Embrace the roleplay!

I'd bet money on no. But if you are determined, try checking out the local library's community board. Sometimes niche groups post flyers there.

The concierge is your best friend here. They know the hidden gems and local contacts. Ask them about 'alternative entertainment' rather than naming Stellaris specifically.
