I'm planning a weekend getaway to the Blackhawk area and Ameristar Casino is at the top of my list. I've heard mixed reviews about the overall experience, especially regarding parking and the dining options. Has anyone stayed at the associated hotel or visited recently? I'm mainly interested in the slot machines and maybe some live entertainment, but I also want to know if there are any good, non-casino dinner spots nearby. Any advice on what to prioritize or if there are any current promotions I should look out for would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The parking can be a nightmare. Seriously, plan to arrive early or be prepared to walk a bit. It's always crowded.

I stayed last fall. The hotel is fine for a quick stop, but don't expect luxury. It's functional. For dinner, skip the casino restaurants; check out the spots downtown in Blackhawk for much better food.

Slots are solid, but the entertainment can be hit or miss. Check their schedule online for specific acts. I found the live music venue much better than the main casino floor shows.

Hey, I was there last month. The dining options are okay if you just need something fast, but if you want a real meal, drive a few blocks away. There are some great BBQ spots nearby.

Definitely look into their weekend packages. They often run promotions that include free meals or bonus play credits. Call ahead or check the Ameristar website before you go!

What about the hotel? Is it walkable to the main casino entrance?

It's a short walk, maybe 5 minutes. But seriously, if you're staying overnight, consider booking a room at a different hotel nearby. It might give you better access to other local attractions and parking.

I agree about the parking. I recommend using the paid lot on the opposite side of the main entrance. It's slightly easier to navigate, even if it costs a little extra.

For non-casino dining, try 'The Local Plate' or something similar downtown. They are known for their fresh ingredients and great atmosphere. You'll be much happier there than in the casino.

Live entertainment is usually best in the evenings. Check out the schedule for the main theater. They often have bands or comedians that are worth seeing, even if you aren't gambling.

Short trip, just for slots? Go early. The machines tend to get really busy and the atmosphere changes dramatically after midnight. Also, bring cash for some of the smaller side bets.

I found the service at the card tables to be excellent, even when it was packed. The dealers were professional and efficient. Don't worry too much about that part!

Are you planning to do any other activities besides gambling? Blackhawk has some nice hiking trails if you want a break from the lights and noise.

If you're coming for a full weekend, I suggest allocating one day for the casino and one day for exploring the surrounding town. It balances the fun with some relaxation.

Just stick to the main slot area. It's overwhelming, but the variety is good. Don't get distracted by the smaller side games if your main focus is slots.

I had a terrible time with the parking. It was confusing and I ended up paying way too much for a spot that was barely big enough for my car. Seriously, look up alternative parking options beforehand.

I think you'll have a great time. Just manage your expectations regarding the dining. It's a casino, so the food is designed to keep you in there, which isn't always the best thing!
