I'm planning a trip to the area and I keep seeing mentions of the 'slot temple' in various guides, but I'm completely lost on what it actually is or how to get there. Is it a specific landmark, or is it part of a larger complex? I'm worried I'll waste time searching for it if I don't understand its purpose. Could someone who has been there give me some tips on what to expect and what sights I should prioritize while I'm exploring the grounds? Any advice on transportation or opening hours would be greatly appreciated.

It's not a temple, actually. It's a series of interconnected, low-lying ruins. You enter through the main gate near the river bend.

Honestly, just follow the main path. Don't worry about the name; it's more of a vibe than a specific building. Wear good shoes!

I found the 'Slot Temple' by taking the northern bypass road. From there, you walk straight for about 15 minutes until you see the large, circular stone markers. They are very hard to miss if you know where to look. I recommend going early, like right when they open, because the crowds are minimal and the light is perfect for photos. Also, bring plenty of water, as the area is quite exposed. You should prioritize exploring the outer courtyard first, as that's where the best carvings are located. Don't forget to check the local market for guides; they can give you a detailed map and local insights that aren't in the tourist brochures. It's a beautiful, albeit somewhat overgrown, site.

Take the local bus 7. It drops you right at the entrance plaza. Super easy.

Are you asking about the historical site or the modern tourist attraction? The guides are confusing because they mix up the two.

I think the guide you read is outdated. They closed off the western sector last year for restoration. Just stick to the main circuit path.

Definitely take a local guide. They know the hidden passages and the best photo spots that aren't marked on any map. It's worth the extra cost.

The best way is to hire a rickshaw for the first leg. It gets you close, and then you walk the rest of the way. It saves a lot of time.

How long do you think it takes to explore everything?

I'd say allocate at least half a day. If you want to really soak it in and explore the deeper ruins, plan for a full day. Don't rush it!

Don't worry about the 'purpose.' Just wander. The beauty is in the mystery. It's a spiritual place, so leave your worries at the gate.

The opening hours are 9 am to 5 pm daily. They sometimes close early if there's heavy rain, so check the official website before you go.

I agree with the previous poster. The main path is fine, but if you take a detour into the smaller side alleys, you'll find much more interesting details and carvings. Look for the moss-covered statues.

I recommend checking out the local transportation options like the electric tuk-tuk service. It's much more efficient than trying to navigate by foot if you have a lot of luggage or are tired. They drop you near the entrance and you can walk from there. It's a good balance of convenience and exploration.

If you're coming from the south, crossing the bridge is the easiest way to access the general area. Then, follow the signs for the main archaeological park.
