I'm trying to get better at playing Monopoly, especially when playing with experienced groups. I've seen people talking about 'big baller trackers' and I'm confused about what exactly they mean. Is it a physical spreadsheet, or is there a specific app I should be using? I want a system that accurately tracks not just cash, but also the value of my properties and the potential rent income. Any advice on setting up a robust tracking method would be hugely appreciated. Does anyone have a template they recommend?

I'd recommend a dedicated Google Sheet. It's free, easy to share, and you can set up formulas for calculating total property value and potential rent income instantly. Just columns for property name, cost, mortgage value, and current rent.

Honestly, I think overthinking it is part of the fun. Just use a notepad and keep track of the big transactions. Don't get bogged down in formulas.

The 'big baller tracker' usually refers to a highly detailed, multi-tab spreadsheet system. It tracks cash, properties, mortgages, and even calculates the net worth at the end of each round. You can find several free templates online by searching 'Monopoly spreadsheet tracker'.

Just track cash. That's all you need.

I found a simple Notion template that works really well. It lets you create databases for your properties and then link them to your cash flow. It's much more visual than a spreadsheet, which I prefer.

A physical ledger book is surprisingly effective. It forces you to write down every single transaction, which helps you remember the flow better than just typing it in.

The Google Sheet approach is best. But make sure you include a column for the *potential* rent if you sell a set, not just the current rent. That's key to understanding asset value.

I disagree with the physical ledger. It's too slow. You need something digital for quick updates when the game is moving fast.

If you are playing competitively, you absolutely must track the potential rent. Knowing the total value of your monopolies is what separates the casual players from the serious ones. I recommend a master spreadsheet with separate tabs for 'Cash', 'Properties', and 'Income Potential'.

What about an app? I looked at a few, but they all seemed outdated or too complicated. Maybe a simple note app with clear headings is enough?

A simple note app might work for basic tracking, but it won't handle the complex calculations needed for calculating total set value or calculating how much you are worth if you sold everything. Stick to a spreadsheet.

I'd start with a basic spreadsheet. Focus on tracking the cash received and the properties acquired. Don't worry about the 'net worth' until you are comfortable with the basic flow.

Remember to factor in the cost of utilities and railroads separately. They are assets, but they don't belong to a color group, so they need their own tracking mechanism in your sheet.
