My family and I just returned from a week at the Royalton Punta Cana and had a wonderful time overall. The resort amenities were fantastic, and the beach access was perfect for the kids. However, we spent most of our time within the property, and I'm wondering if there are any must-visit spots nearby that aren't covered by the all-inclusive package. We were thinking about a day trip to Bávaro or maybe checking out some local excursions. Does anyone have recommendations for reputable tour operators or specific places we should prioritize? Any tips on transportation would be greatly appreciated.

You absolutely need to check out the local markets. They are much more authentic than the resort shops.

For a day trip, I highly recommend heading to Saona Island. It's breathtakingly beautiful, though getting there requires booking a reputable boat tour in advance.

Bávaro is great for shopping, but if you want a true local vibe, try heading a bit further inland toward the smaller towns. It's a different experience.

Definitely use a private transfer service. Taxis can be hit or miss, and negotiating fares can be stressful, especially with luggage.

I found that booking excursions through a third-party site like Viator or GetYourGuide gave us better pricing and more reliable scheduling than booking directly at the resort.

Did you consider the Altamira area? It's quieter than Bávaro and has some beautiful, less crowded beaches perfect for a relaxing day.

Oh, I disagree about the markets. They can be overwhelming and sometimes feel a bit touristy themselves. I preferred staying closer to the main strip.

Regarding transportation, renting a car gives you the most freedom, but remember that driving can be chaotic, and parking in popular spots is tough. Maybe consider a guided bus tour instead?

We went snorkeling near the reefs outside the main beach area. It was amazing, and our guide arranged the boat trip for us. Ask the concierge for recommendations, but verify them independently!

Saona Island is a must. Just make sure you wear good shoes and bring plenty of water. The boat ride itself is part of the fun!

I agree with the private transfer advice. It saved us so much stress getting to the main shopping areas. We used a company called 'Punta Cana Transfers' and they were excellent.

For a quick, easy outing, check out the local craft beer bars near the main road. It's a nice change of pace from the all-inclusive buffet.

Long trip planning needed. We spent a full day exploring the local farming areas and ate incredible, authentic Dominican food. It was a wonderful cultural immersion and totally different from the resort experience.

Don't forget to check out the local art galleries. They are tucked away on smaller side streets and offer unique souvenirs that aren't mass-produced.

If you're focused on pure relaxation, skip the big excursions and just rent a beach chair and umbrella a little way down the coast. It's peaceful and affordable.

My biggest tip is to budget for tipping. Even if the resort is all-inclusive, local guides and drivers appreciate tips, and it helps support the local economy.

I found the excursion operators to be quite varied in quality. Always check recent reviews for the specific tour company, not just the destination itself. Safety first!

Did you try the local rum tasting tours? It was a fun way to learn about the region's history and taste some unique local spirits.

We spent a wonderful afternoon exploring the nearby historical town center. It was much calmer than the resort area and had lovely architecture to wander through. Wear comfortable shoes!
