My partner and I are planning a trip to Lopesan Costa Meloneras and we are really excited about the resort and spa facilities. We've read rave reviews about the spa treatments, but we also want to make sure we aren't just stuck on the property. For those who have been, what are your recommendations for day trips or local activities that feel authentic? We're looking for a good balance between pure relaxation and experiencing the local culture, maybe some good restaurants away from the main resort area. Any advice on transportation or must-see spots would be greatly appreciated!

You absolutely must take a day trip to Maspalomas. The dunes and the local market are a world away from the resort bubble. It's a beautiful contrast.

For authentic culture, skip the immediate resort area. Head towards Puerto de Mogán. It's known for its charming, less touristy feel and great seafood restaurants.

I found that renting a scooter was the best way to explore. It gives you the freedom to wander through smaller villages like Playa del Inglés' backstreets without feeling rushed. Just be careful with parking!

Short. Just walk the boardwalk at sunset.

Don't underestimate the value of a local taxi driver. They often know the best hidden tapas bars and spots that aren't listed in the big guidebooks. Just ask for recommendations for 'local spots'!

I agree with the Maspalomas suggestion. We spent a day exploring the natural reserve, which was breathtaking. It felt so wild compared to the pristine resort beaches. We also found a fantastic little bakery near the main road that served amazing local pastries.

Is the transportation tricky? I'm worried about navigating the local bus system.

It's actually quite manageable! The main bus lines connect the major hubs easily. However, for the truly local feel, I recommend renting a car and driving to the smaller towns just outside the immediate tourist zone. It requires a bit more planning, but the payoff is huge.

Definitely try a cooking class! Many local establishments offer classes focusing on authentic Canarian cuisine. It's a fun way to engage with the culture and you get to take home recipes. It's a perfect blend of activity and relaxation.

The local market day is a must. Check out the schedule for the weekly farmer's market. It's sensory overload in the best way possible, and you can grab fresh snacks for lunch.

I think you should prioritize a specific day for pure relaxation, and another day for exploration. Don't try to cram everything in. We spent one day doing nothing but reading by the pool, and the next day we hiked the coastal paths. It was perfect.

I found a great spot for dinner in Puerto de Mogán. It was a tiny, family-run place right on the water. The paella was incredible and the staff spoke no English, which made it feel super authentic.

How far is Puerto de Mogán from the resort area? Is it a long drive?

It's about a 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic. It's worth the journey. The atmosphere is completely different from the big resorts, giving you that local flavor you are looking for. Just use a ride-share or a pre-booked taxi for convenience.

Take a boat trip out to the nearby islands if you want a change of scenery. It's a whole different vibe and a great way to reset after spa treatments.

My biggest tip: Don't be afraid to wander aimlessly. Sometimes the best restaurants and sights are found when you just get lost in a back alley. It's part of the fun!
