I'm trying to optimize my combat gear for bossing, specifically looking at the Neck slot. I've been using the [Item A] because of its bonus, but I'm concerned about the overall stat boost versus the utility of other items like the [Item B]. Does anyone have experience running a pure damage build versus a hybrid utility build in this slot? I'm running a mixed setup and need advice on whether the stat boost or the specific resistance is more valuable right now. Any recommendations on what I should be swapping in would be greatly appreciated.

For bossing, resistance is king. Don't sacrifice survivability for marginal stat gains.

I'd recommend looking at the 'Aetherweave Collar.' It gives a solid balance of both stat boost and a crucial elemental resistance that helps against most raid bosses. It's a solid all-rounder.

Pure damage builds are great until the boss switches phases. Utility items that grant crowd control immunity or a temporary shield are far more valuable than +5 INT.

Totally agree with the OP. I found that prioritizing resistance against the most common boss debuff (usually fire or arcane) was a massive quality-of-life improvement. The stat boost just wasn't worth the risk.

Short answer: Utility. Always utility.

Are you running the current patch's boss rotation? If so, the utility item that mitigates the final phase burst damage is non-negotiable. The stat boost is just filler if you die instantly.

I used [Item A] for months and felt like I was just stacking numbers on paper. The actual combat felt shaky. I switched to a resistance piece and my overall damage output actually increased because I wasn't dying every other pull.

Reply to OP: You mentioned [Item B]. Have you checked if it has any synergy with your current main hand weapon? Sometimes the utility bonus is tied to a specific build type, which might make it much stronger than just looking at the resistance stat alone.

The 'Crimson Choker' is amazing. It gives a decent stat boost but also a chance to cleanse status effects, which is invaluable when you're trying to maintain DPS uptime.

If you are struggling with mixed setups, try to identify your biggest weakness. Is it burst damage? Is it sustained DoT? Then find a neck piece that specifically counters that weakness. Don't just pick the highest number.

I think the consensus is moving away from pure stat stacking. The meta favors resilience. I'd swap out the stat piece for anything that grants a temporary damage reduction buff.

If you are doing pure damage, you need to ensure your resistance piece doesn't negatively impact your primary damage stat. Check the itemization carefully.

Don't forget to look at the set bonuses! Sometimes a slightly weaker piece is required to activate a powerful three-piece set bonus that dramatically increases your effective DPS.

The best option depends entirely on the raid group composition. If everyone is stacking elemental damage, you need the corresponding resistance. It's situational, not universal.

I'd suggest checking out the forums dedicated to the specific boss you are running. They usually have detailed guides on the optimal gear swap for that particular encounter, which is way more reliable than general advice.
