I've been playing on GlobalPoker for a few months now, and I'm trying to transition from cash games to larger tournaments. I find the blind structure really challenging, especially when stacks get shallow. I'm trying to figure out if it's better to play tight and wait for premium spots, or if I need to be more aggressive to stay competitive in the later stages. Has anyone here had success with a specific pre-flop strategy for multi-table tournaments? Any advice on managing bankroll specifically for high-stakes events would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You need to adapt your strategy based on the stage of the tournament. Early stages favor tighter play to build chips, but once the blinds start eating into your stack, you must become more aggressive. Don't be afraid to open wider than you think you should.

For multi-table play, I always recommend a balanced approach. Play tight enough to avoid getting exploited, but loose enough to capitalize when others are folding too much. Focus on position.

Bankroll management is key. Never play a tournament with more than 10-15 buy-ins. Treat it like a professional investment, not just a casual game night.

Shallow stacks are where ICM (Independent Chip Model) comes into play. You can't just rely on pure poker equity. Sometimes, making a small, profitable fold is better than risking it all.

I think you are right about the aggression. If you wait for 'premium spots,' you will be bust before the final table. You have to take calculated risks when the stacks are shallow. Start with small, speculative raises.

Has anyone figured out the optimal spot for a bubble play? It feels like a minefield.

To respond to the 'aggressive' point: Be careful not to overplay. Aggression needs to be backed by solid reads and position. If you are just raising randomly, you are just feeding the bubble players.

I found that focusing on exploiting the weakest players at your table, rather than trying to play 'perfect poker,' was the most profitable strategy for me. Read the room!

I disagree with the idea of always being aggressive. Sometimes, the best play is to sit back, control the pot size, and let your opponents do the work for you. Patience is a massive underrated asset.

Remember to study the tournament structure. Knowing when the payout jumps are happening allows you to adjust your risk tolerance accordingly. It's not just about the cards.

The best pre-flop strategy is to play a polarized range. You want to have a few monster hands, and a few bluffs, so opponents never know what you're doing.

Totally agree with the bankroll advice. Also, always play with a clear goal. Are you playing for fun, or are you trying to make money? Setting expectations helps you manage tilt when things go south.
