Just got back from a trip to Platja d'Aro and had such a wonderful time. If anyone is planning a visit, I wanted to share a few tips. While the main beach area is beautiful, I found the quieter sections near the dunes perfect for a morning walk. Also, make sure to try out the local seafood restaurants away from the main promenade for better value. It was really important to take some time just to relax and soak in the atmosphere; don't feel pressured to do too much. Overall, it's a fantastic place to enjoy it, but knowing where to look makes a big difference.

The dunes are absolutely magical for a quiet morning stroll. I spent hours just watching the tide come in. Definitely adding that to my itinerary!

We rented bikes and cycled along the coastal path connecting Platja d'Aro to the next town. It was much more scenic than just walking on the beach. Highly recommend bringing your own shoes for walking on sand and gravel.

I agree completely about the seafood. We ate at a tiny place tucked away on a side street, and the paella was unbelievable. It felt so authentic, unlike the tourist traps right on the main boardwalk. If you venture a little further inland, you'll find gems. Just be prepared to walk a bit off the main drag, but it's worth the effort for the quality and the price.

Couldn't agree more about slowing down. It's so easy to feel rushed trying to see everything, but just sitting with a book and listening to the waves was the best part of the trip.

What time of day did you find best for the dune walks? Also, are there any good spots for renting sunbeds or umbrellas that aren't directly on the main beach strip?

I found that the restaurants right near the promenade are okay, but the value drops significantly. Instead, try looking around the area near the old fishing harbor - that's where we found the best, freshest catches without breaking the bank. It requires a slight detour, but trust me, it's better.

Platja d'Aro is a fantastic mix of natural beauty and lively atmosphere. We spent our first day exploring the quieter northern end near the dunes, and the second day cycling south. We found that the key was balancing activity with downtime. We made sure to eat local tapas in the late afternoon, which was a highlight. If you plan to go, definitely pre-book a spot for sunset viewing, as it gets crowded!

Look for the viewpoint slightly elevated on the western side of the beach. It gives you a panoramic view of the whole coastline and the dunes meeting the sea. It's perfect for photos and feels much more secluded than the main viewing areas.

The bike rental idea is brilliant! We cycled for an hour and it was perfect. It really lets you cover more ground and see the surrounding landscape, not just the beach itself.

A word of caution: the main beach can get extremely crowded, especially during peak summer weekends. If you want a more peaceful experience, try visiting mid-week or early in the morning. Also, remember to bring plenty of water, as the sun is intense!

Here is a suggested day: Start early (8 am) with a long walk through the dunes. By 11 am, rent bikes and cycle towards the next town. For lunch, head inland to a local spot for seafood. In the late afternoon, relax on the beach and enjoy a sunset drink. This pace allows you to soak up the atmosphere without feeling exhausted. It's a perfect balance.

Are there any good spots to find accommodation that are close enough to walk to the quieter dune areas, but not right on the noisy main strip?

That itinerary sounds perfect. It's ambitious but totally doable if you pace yourselves. Starting early is key, and the combination of cycling and relaxing sounds like the ideal Platja d'Aro experience.

Don't forget about the local artisan shops! There are some really unique souvenirs and crafts tucked away on the smaller side streets that make great gifts. Just wander aimlessly and see what catches your eye.
