I've been watching the game film and I'm trying to understand the coordinator's intentions regarding Primm's usage. He seems to be getting a lot of action on third downs, but sometimes the timing feels off, leading to stalled drives. Does anyone else feel like the play-calling could be more varied, especially when we are deep in opponent territory? I'm wondering if there's a specific matchup strategy that needs to be implemented, or if the issue is more about play design itself. Any insights from people who follow the playbooks closely would be really appreciated.

I think the issue isn't Primm himself, but the play calling structure around him. They need more intermediate routes to keep the safeties honest.

Totally agree. The third-down usage is fine, but when they get into the red zone, it feels predictable. Too many run-pass options that don't challenge the defense.

Maybe the coordinator is trying to force a specific matchup against the opponent's nickel corner. If they can't beat them with speed, they rely on timing routes, which is what we saw stalled out.

Short. Needs more variety.

I saw the film too. It seems like they are over-relying on quick slants. When the opponent knows that's the go-to play, they can cheat up and shut it down immediately. They need vertical threats to pull the defense out of the box.

Reply to the user above: Exactly! And when they run the vertical threats, Primm seems to get isolated and doesn't have enough time to settle into the timing routes we need.

I think the play design issue is compounded by the offensive line's consistency. Even the best quarterback can't make magic happen if the pocket collapses too easily on third downs.

Has anyone looked at the historical data? When they were running more play-action passes, the success rate was significantly higher, especially when the defense was expecting a run.

The timing feels off because the routes aren't adjusting based on the defensive alignment. It's a systemic problem, not just a Primm problem. They need pre-snap reads that dictate the entire play call.

I disagree that it's purely play calling. I think Primm is doing his best with the personnel they are giving him. Sometimes the ball needs to get to the slot receiver more frequently when they are deep in opponent territory.

reply to the user who mentioned play-action: I think the play-action was great, but they need to mix it up. Don't run it every time they get into the 30-yard line. Save it for a critical moment.

The depth chart might be the real issue. If they had a reliable deep threat receiver, the entire offensive philosophy would change, making Primm's role much more effective and less constrained.

It's the tempo. They need to speed up the pace of the passing game when they are in good field position. Quick strikes are better than drawn-out, stalled drives.

I feel like the coordinator is playing it safe. Instead of calling something aggressive that could fail, they are calling something moderate that guarantees a stall. They need to take calculated risks.

If we are talking matchup strategy, they need to specifically target the opponent's weak side safety. Primm is great at exploiting those gaps with crossing routes.

I'm just hoping they adjust the play calling to better utilize the tight end. He's getting underutilized when they are deep in opponent territory.

reply to the user who mentioned the slot receiver: Agreed. And those slot routes need to be designed with more separation, not just crossing paths. Make them beatable.

Overall, the offense is talented, but the playbook seems too linear right now. They need to incorporate more concepts that force the defense to respect both the run and the deep pass simultaneously. That's where the adjustments need to happen.
