I'm having a persistent issue trying to stream videos through Amazon Prime Video, and I'm running out of ideas. It buffers constantly, even when my internet speed tests show I'm well above the recommended Mbps. I've already tried restarting my router and my smart TV, but the problem persists across multiple devices. Sometimes I get a generic error code, but it changes, which makes it really frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this specific kind of intermittent buffering, and if so, what steps actually fixed it for you? I'm willing to try anything from changing DNS settings to checking my ISP connection.

Have you tried using a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi? Sometimes the wireless signal degrades even if the speed test looks good.

The intermittent nature suggests it might be a local ISP issue or network congestion, not just your bandwidth. I recommend contacting your ISP and asking them to run a line diagnostic specifically for streaming stability, not just speed.

I had this exact issue months ago. After checking my modem's logs and realizing my router was hitting its maximum DHCP lease limit, I updated the firmware and reset the network parameters. It fixed everything. Also, make sure no background devices are hogging bandwidth.

Clear the app cache on all devices. Seriously, this simple step fixes half the streaming problems.

I agree about the DNS. Try switching to Google DNS (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) on your router level. Sometimes the ISP's DNS servers just struggle with high-volume streaming traffic.

Before diving into DNS, check your account status. Sometimes, if there's a temporary billing hiccup or a regional content restriction, the service throttles quality, which looks like buffering. Double-check your Amazon account details.

If the issue persists across multiple devices and wired connections, the problem is almost certainly upstream. You need to check for Quality of Service (QoS) settings on your router. Make sure that streaming video traffic is prioritized over other household devices like gaming consoles or smart home hubs. Also, consider temporarily disabling any VPNs or firewalls on the router itself, as they can interfere with streaming protocols.

Try streaming at a different time of day. Peak hours can overload local nodes.

I think the QoS advice is spot on. On my setup, prioritizing video traffic completely stabilized the stream. It was a subtle setting that was causing the bottleneck.

If you are casting from a phone or computer, try running the Prime Video app natively on the TV itself. Casting can introduce extra latency and instability that mimics buffering.

If you are in an apartment building, the issue might be the building's main internet line or the ISP's local node capacity. This is beyond your control, but you should mention this suspicion when you call them. Ask them if other neighbors are experiencing similar issues.

I doubt it's the ISP's main line. I tested the connection directly from the modem using an Ethernet cable to a laptop, and the buffering continued. This points more towards an issue with the Prime Video app or the TV's operating system itself.

Make sure your smart TV's operating system is completely up to date. Sometimes streaming apps require specific OS patches to function correctly and handle modern streaming codecs.

What model of TV and router are you using? Knowing the specific hardware can help determine if there's a known firmware incompatibility with Amazon's streaming protocols.

If all else fails, record the error codes and the time stamps of the buffering events. Contact Amazon support directly and provide them with this detailed log. They can check server-side logs that we users cannot access.

This is incredibly frustrating. Hope one of these steps works for you!
