My partner and I are finally planning a trip to Vegas Island next spring and we are really excited. We've done some research on the resorts and the general area, but we are totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of things to see and do. For first-time visitors, what are the absolute must-do activities that we shouldn't skip? Are there any hidden gems or local spots that aren't heavily advertised? We are interested in a mix of relaxation, some light adventure, and maybe some good dining recommendations that aren't just casino-related. Any advice on maximizing our time there would be hugely appreciated!

Definitely check out the botanical gardens. It's a peaceful escape from the resort hustle and a great way to start your trip.

For light adventure, rent bikes and cycle the perimeter paths. It's surprisingly scenic and you get great views of the bay. Pack sunscreen!

I recommend taking a sunset cruise. It's non-casino, relaxing, and the views of the skyline as the sun dips are breathtaking. Book tickets well in advance.

Must-do? The local seafood market near the old docks. Amazing fresh catches and much better prices than the resort restaurants. Check out 'The Salty Spoon.'

Oh, you should try the local street food vendors in the Old Town district. It's where the real flavor is. Don't just stick to the fancy spots!

Agreed about the gardens. Also, make sure you dedicate at least half a day to just wandering the residential areas. You'll find charming little cafes and local life that feels totally removed from the Vegas vibe.

Don't forget the historical walking tour! It gives you context to the island's past and is a fun way to learn about the area without spending a dime.

I think the best activity is just getting lost. Wander aimlessly through the side streets. You'll stumble upon hidden art installations and unique shops you never knew existed. It's the best kind of unplanned adventure.

Short and sweet: Sunset cruise and botanical gardens. That's it.

Replying to the 'Salty Spoon' comment: While the seafood is great, try the little trattoria on the corner, 'Mama Rosa's.' Their pasta is legendary and much more intimate than the market stalls. It's a local secret, for sure.

For dining, look into the farm-to-table spots just outside the main tourist zone. They focus on local produce and offer a much more authentic, relaxed meal experience. Researching by neighborhood is key!

If you are interested in culture, visit the local museum dedicated to island history. It's small, but incredibly informative. It's a perfect half-day activity.

I disagree that the Old Town is enough. You need to venture across the bridge to the industrial waterfront area. There are incredible public art installations and views of the working docks that are totally different from the tourist spots. It's gritty, cool, and free.

A mix of everything! Start with the gardens, hit the waterfront for adventure, and end the day with a nice dinner at a non-casino spot. Balance is everything!
