Hi everyone, I'm planning a trip to San Juan next month and I'm staying at the Marriott, but I also plan to spend time at the Stellaris Casino. I've been looking at tons of photos online, but they are all so different, and I'm not sure what the actual vibe is like. Specifically, I'm trying to figure out the best spots to take pictures of the resort grounds and the casino area without looking like a tourist. Does anyone have recent photos or tips on the best angles? I'm hoping to capture a mix of relaxation and nightlife energy. Any advice on which area is more photogenic at sunset would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely Stellaris for nightlife shots. The architecture is dramatic.

You should focus on the walkways connecting the resort. The lighting there at sunset is incredible for golden hour shots. Also, try getting up early to capture the beach before the crowds arrive.

Marriott is more relaxed. Less 'touristy' if you stick to the garden areas.

Stellaris has better angles, hands down. The fountains and the casino interior design are perfect for moody, high-energy photos. Don't forget to check out the rooftop bar view.

I agree with the rooftop suggestion. The view from the Marriott's higher floors is surprisingly good, especially if you angle away from the main lobby crowd. Try shooting across the water.

Skip the casino photos. They are too commercial looking.

If you want 'non-touristy,' stay on the side streets near the historical district, not the main resort thoroughfares. Those spots have authentic color and life. The resort areas are beautiful, but they feel staged.

The Stellaris pool deck is surprisingly photogenic. Use the negative space and focus on people enjoying themselves, rather than the building itself. It gives a great sense of scale.

I found the best shots were actually at the local coffee shops near the main street. They offer a mix of local life and beautiful backdrops without the resort feel.

The Marriott grounds are gorgeous for a peaceful sunset shot. Just walk toward the edge of the property, away from the main entrance, and you'll find quieter spots with great natural light.

Reply to the Marriott suggestion: I think the casino's internal lighting is actually perfect for dramatic, moody shots that look professional. You have to angle your shots correctly to make it work.

Bring a wide-angle lens. It helps capture the scale of both the resort and the casino area without making everything look flat.

For a mix of relaxation and energy, shoot the transition. Start with a slow, calm shot of the water at the Marriott, and then transition to a quick, vibrant shot of the casino lights at night. Juxtaposition is key.

I think the best photo spot is actually the walkway connecting the two properties. It gives you a view of both the Marriott's calm side and the Stellaris's energy side simultaneously. It's the perfect contrast shot.

Check out the statues and fountains at the Marriott. They are classic and provide excellent framing opportunities, especially when the sun is low.

I recommend going at dusk. The moment the natural light fades and the artificial lights kick in is when both locations look their absolute best. It's a magical time for photography.

Don't worry about looking like a tourist. San Juan is inherently photogenic. Just remember to shoot the details: the colorful tiles, the local people, the shadows. That's where the real magic is.
