My partner and I are planning a weekend trip to the Hollywood area and we are staying at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. We've seen pictures of the resort and the casino floor, but we are really looking for suggestions for non-gambling activities. Is the hotel itself a good place to spend a day, or should we plan to leave? We are interested in local Hollywood attractions, maybe some good dinner spots nearby, or even unique local experiences that aren't tourist traps. Any advice on maximizing our time there would be greatly appreciated!

You should definitely explore the Hollywood Walk of Fame and TCL Chinese Theatre. It's a classic, and even if it feels touristy, it's a must-see for first-timers.

Don't underestimate the hotel itself! The pool area and the various bars/restaurants offer enough entertainment for a whole day. Just walk around and soak up the atmosphere.

For a non-touristy dinner, check out West Hollywood. It has incredible, diverse dining options and feels much more local than the immediate Hollywood strip. Reservations are a must.

Seriously, skip the casino floor. Instead, take a bus or Uber to Griffith Observatory. The views of the city and the Hollywood Sign at sunset are unmatched. It's free and breathtaking.

I recommend a quick stroll through the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It's beautiful, historical, and very different from the usual tourist spots. It's surprisingly peaceful.

Agreed about Griffith. But also check out the Hollywood Farmers Market if your trip aligns with a Sunday. It's a great local vibe and perfect for grabbing picnic supplies.

How about a movie theater experience? Catching a classic film at a historic cinema is a fun, low-key activity that doesn't involve gambling or massive crowds.

I found a great spot for lunch near the Dolby Theatre area. It's a little hidden gem, and the food was fantastic without feeling overpriced or overly curated for tourists.

West Hollywood is great, but if you want something unique, try finding a local record store. Hollywood has some amazing vintage vinyl shops that are perfect for browsing and finding unique souvenirs.

Are you thinking of a specific budget? Because 'good dinner spots' can mean anything from $20 tacos to $300 tasting menus. Knowing that helps narrow down the perfect recommendation.

To reply to the budget question: We are looking for mid-range, maybe $50-$75 per person for dinner. Something with atmosphere, but not ridiculously fancy.

For the mid-range dinner, try checking out the restaurants near Melrose Avenue. It's trendy, has great energy, and you can find everything from Italian to Vietnamese cuisine. It's a lively area.

If you want a truly unique experience, book a guided tour that focuses on Hollywood's history, not just the stars. Some focus on the architecture and the movie magic behind the scenes. It's much more insightful.

Definitely take a walk through the Miracle Mile area. It's less chaotic than the main strip and has some beautiful architecture and smaller boutiques to explore. It's a nice pace for a relaxed day.
