I just picked up an older model with the 32rwd configuration, and I'm really excited to get it on the road. I've done some reading about rear-wheel drive handling, but I'm worried about some of the common issues that come with this setup, especially regarding differential wear. Has anyone here had experience with this specific model or year? I'm particularly concerned about the suspension bushings and whether I need to budget for an immediate overhaul. Any advice on recommended fluids or specific parts I should inspect right away would be greatly appreciated before I take it out for a long drive.

Welcome to the club! RWD setups are fun, but they do require attention. Start by checking the CV boots and the differential fluid level. Don't skip the fluid change, even if the mileage seems low.

The bushings are always the first thing to go on older cars. I'd budget for a full suspension bushing kit and maybe some ball joints just to be safe. It's cheaper than dealing with a failed control arm later.

Definitely check the rear sway bar end links. They are notorious for wear and can affect handling more than you think. Also, inspect the brake lines for any signs of corrosion.

Fluids are key. Use a specific gear oil rated for your differential, not just any general gear lube. And don't forget to check the transmission fluid too.

I found that replacing the entire rear differential seal kit made a huge difference in preventing leaks. It's a relatively inexpensive job that pays off.

Are you talking about the 32-model year, or just the 32rwd setup? The maintenance schedule varies wildly depending on the specific platform.

To respond to the previous user: If you're worried about differential wear, listen closely when you accelerate. Any whining or grinding sound means something needs immediate attention.

Short answer: Get an inspection. Long answer: Get a full inspection. Seriously, don't just eyeball it. Take it to a trusted mechanic who knows RWD vehicles.

I recommend a thorough inspection of the exhaust system mounts. They often rust and can cause vibrations that mimic suspension issues, leading to unnecessary part replacements.

I agree with the bushing advice. I replaced all the bushings and the ride quality improved dramatically. It felt much tighter and more planted.

Don't forget tire pressure! It sounds basic, but improper inflation can put undue stress on the suspension components, especially the rear axle.

If you are planning long drives, consider getting a good set of high-quality tires that match the intended use. All-season tires are fine, but dedicated performance tires will give you better confidence in the rear end.

I once ignored the minor differential whine and it became a massive failure. Trust me on this one. Change the fluid and inspect the differential gears thoroughly.

Hey, if you are running any aftermarket exhaust, make sure the mounting points are solid. Vibrations can loosen everything up over time, including bushings and mounts.

The best thing you can do is find a local specialist who works on this model. General mechanics often overlook the nuances of RWD setups.
