My partner and I are planning a trip to Barcelona next month and we are really interested in checking out the casino scene. I've read mixed things online, and I'm not sure if the regulations have changed much recently. Could anyone who has visited recently give me some insight? Specifically, I'm wondering about the best areas to look for them and if there are any specific types of games or venues that are more popular. Any tips on dress code or what to expect in terms of atmosphere would be hugely appreciated before we book our itinerary.

Stick to the major hotels. They are the safest bet for finding a proper casino.

I went last year. It was fine, but definitely not the main attraction. Focus on the beaches and Gothic Quarter instead.

You should check out the Grand Casino in the Hotel España area. It's quite established and has a good variety of games, from slots to table games. Dress code is smart casual, nothing too flashy, but definitely no shorts or flip-flops. The atmosphere is more refined than wild, which I think is a plus for a couple. They also have some nice restaurants attached, so it's a good full-day plan. Just remember that the best casinos are often tucked away in hotel complexes, so plan your transport accordingly.

Are you asking about the smaller, more local spots, or the big resort ones? The regulations are quite strict, so the 'easy' part might be misleading. Most are tied to high-end accommodations, which can be a bit pricey.

I heard they closed down. Is that true?

They haven't closed. The main one is still running, but it has changed ownership, which might affect the vibe slightly. I recommend checking recent travel blogs for the absolute latest updates on operational status.

Definitely wear smart attire. Think blazer, nice trousers, and closed-toe shoes for both of you. It's not a beach party.

I found a great little spot near the waterfront. It was surprisingly lively and less corporate than the big hotel casinos. Worth looking into if you want something more intimate.

The atmosphere is quite different from Vegas. It's more reserved and focused on the gaming experience itself, rather than the spectacle. Don't expect massive crowds unless it's a major holiday.

What about the best games? I only know about slots.

You'll find everything. Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat, and of course, slots. The biggest venues usually have dedicated areas for all of these. If you're looking for a classic, try Baccarat. It's very popular there.

Just book a day pass or check the hotel rates. It's a splurge, but worth it for the experience.

Don't rely on finding them just anywhere. They are regulated and concentrated in specific, high-end zones. Research the hotel you stay at; sometimes they have direct access or partnerships.

Check out the local guides for the specific hotel. They usually list the closest and best-regarded casino options.

It's a bit of a trek, but the experience is unique. Make sure to budget time for travel between the casino and other sightseeing.

The best tip is to go early. You'll avoid the peak crowds and the atmosphere is much more relaxed in the late afternoon.
