I finally made it to the Cal Neva Lodge last weekend and wanted to share my full experience. The location itself is breathtaking, really set back from the main highway, which was great for peace and quiet. The rooms were clean, but I found the breakfast options a little limited for the price point. Overall, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with local recommendations. If you are looking for a quiet getaway and don't mind basic amenities, I think it's a solid choice, but maybe check out a few other options first.

Totally agree about the location. It's pure magic out there.

I went last spring and found the staff to be phenomenal. They really made the trip feel special. The views alone are worth the price tag, even if the breakfast is a little basic.

Is the parking tricky? I'm worried about driving up there.

Limited breakfast options? Seriously? For that price, I expected more than just toast and coffee. It was a major letdown.

I found the rooms adequate. Nothing luxurious, but perfectly clean. It's a great spot for a weekend reset.

How was the drive? Was it difficult to navigate on the mountain roads?

I'm debating going. You mentioned checking other options. Has anyone stayed at the nearby XYZ Inn? I heard it's more budget-friendly.

Definitely worth it if you prioritize peace over gourmet meals. The silence is unmatched.

I disagree on the breakfast. We ordered the continental package and it was fine for what we needed. Just eat a proper breakfast before you arrive!

The staff really saved our trip. They gave us hiking tips we would have never found otherwise. Highly recommend going just for their local knowledge.

Five stars for the scenery. It's breathtaking. The quiet is exactly what I needed to decompress after city life. I'll book my stay immediately.

Are the rooms connected or are they all separate units? I'm traveling with my partner and would love a bit of extra space.

I think you nailed it. It's not for everyone. If you want a resort experience with endless dining options, look elsewhere. But for rustic charm and nature, Cal Neva is perfect.

I had a different experience with the staff. They were polite, but when we asked for directions to a specific trail, they seemed a little overwhelmed and pointed us in the wrong direction. Maybe it was just a bad day for them.

Short and sweet: Go for the views. Skip the fancy breakfast expectations.

For the price, the rooms felt a little dated. I expected more modern amenities given the location's fame. Maybe they need a refresh.

I loved it! We spent most of our time hiking and just reading by the lodge. It was exactly the kind of quiet getaway I was hoping for. I'm already planning my return trip.

I agree with the OP. It's a solid choice, but I'd recommend booking well in advance, especially for weekend stays. It gets busy fast.

The lodge itself is beautiful, though. Just walking around the grounds felt like a luxury experience, even if the room amenities were basic.

If you are concerned about the breakfast, maybe call ahead and ask about any special packages or local bakery options they might be able to arrange for you. Don't let the limited menu scare you off!
