Hi everyone, I spent a week at Maho Beach Resort and had a really great time overall, but I wanted to ask if anyone has tips for improving the experience. The location is stunning, of course, and the beach itself is perfect for swimming. However, I found the kids' club hours a bit restrictive, and I wonder if they offer more flexible activities for older tweens. Also, I noticed the dining options were quite limited, especially for non-Caribbean cuisine. Has anyone found a good local spot nearby that isn't part of the resort complex? Any recommendations would be hugely appreciated!

For the tweens, check out the resort's activity schedule online. Sometimes they run special teen nights that aren't advertised everywhere. It's worth checking the resort's dedicated youth portal.

Totally agree about the dining. We found a fantastic little spot called 'El Gaucho' about a 15-minute drive inland. It's authentic Argentinian steakhouse fare and totally worth the Uber ride.

The kids' club was fine for the little ones, but for tweens, I actually found the beach volleyball courts and the snorkeling gear rental to be more engaging. Those activities are usually self-directed and don't require a club schedule.

Short. Try 'Mama Rosa's' for Italian.

I had a different experience with the kids' club. While the hours were set, the staff were incredibly engaging and ran impromptu crafts and games that made the time fly by. Maybe it's more about the staff than the schedule itself.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean about the food. We ate at a small local taco stand near the main road, just outside the resort gates. It was incredibly cheap, fresh, and tasted way better than anything the resort offered.

Did you try the resort's specialty coffee shop? It's not local, but it has some amazing pastries and a quieter vibe if you need a break from the beach noise. It's a good mid-day option.

Replying to the taco comment: Yes! That's the spot. We went there on our last night and it was perfect. Definitely skip the resort restaurants for dinner.

For the dining, if you want something non-Caribbean, look for places specializing in jerk chicken or local seafood. Sometimes the resort's main restaurant has a 'local specialty' night that is surprisingly good and authentic.

I think the kids' club is actually pretty great. My 12-year-old spent hours doing the supervised art workshop. Maybe you need to ask them about the specific age groups they cater to, rather than just the hours.

Definitely check out the local market on the third street. You can find vendors selling fresh fruit, local snacks, and even some small, non-resort restaurants tucked away in the side alleys. It's a whole different vibe.
