I just bought this used document scanner and it seems to be having trouble recognizing the card slot. I've read the manual and it says it should accept standard credit cards and ID badges, but it keeps giving me an 'Error: Slot Overload' message even when I only insert one card. I've tried cleaning the slot with compressed air, but that didn't help. Has anyone successfully used this model with a card, and if so, what specific settings or steps should I be following? I'm worried I might be doing something wrong with the insertion process.

Check the card type. Some scanners are picky about magnetic stripe vs. chip cards.

Did you try using a different card? Sometimes the error is triggered by the card's internal chip, not the slot itself. If it accepts a simple plastic ID, that helps narrow down the issue.

If it's a used unit, the internal sensor might be failing. The 'Slot Overload' error can sometimes be a generic message for 'sensor malfunction' rather than actual physical overload. You might need professional calibration.

Mine did the exact same thing. I ended up finding that the scanner firmware needed a manual update via USB, which fixed the recognition issue completely. Check the manufacturer's site for firmware updates.

Are you sure the card is inserted flush? Sometimes if the card isn't perfectly aligned, the sensor reads it as multiple overlapping items, causing the overload error.

I think you might be dealing with a software bug. Sometimes running the scanner utility in 'Diagnostic Mode' (if available) can bypass the normal card reading routine and tell you exactly which sensor is failing.

I had to physically adjust the guide rails slightly. They were misaligned on my unit, and that was throwing off the depth sensor, making it think the card was sticking out too far. It was a minor mechanical fix.

>> @User123: I agree with the firmware update suggestion. I did that and it was magic. The manual was definitely outdated.

Maybe the slot has residue that compressed air can't reach. Try a very gentle wipe with an anti-static cloth. Be extremely careful not to scratch the contacts.

My experience was that the scanner needed to be powered off, unplugged for 15 minutes, and then plugged back in. A hard reset often clears these weird, persistent error codes.

The model number is key here. If you post the exact model and serial number, someone might have already solved this specific issue. Don't rely only on the manual.

>> @User456: You are right about the card type. Mine only worked reliably with standard PVC badges, not the thicker credit cards. It seems the slot is designed for a specific thickness.

I bought this exact model and the problem was solved by simply changing the default language setting in the utility software. It was a ridiculous fix, but it worked.

Don't worry too much. Used electronics are inherently unpredictable. If none of the software or cleaning tips work, maybe it's time to budget for a replacement unit.

I found that the error message 'Slot Overload' sometimes means the internal reader is detecting a slight magnetic field interference from nearby electronics, like a phone or a power strip. Move the scanner away from other devices.

Try using the scanner in a different environment. If you are near metal shelving or large machinery, the electromagnetic interference could be triggering the false error message.

I had this issue too. It turned out the issue wasn't the slot, but the power supply itself. The voltage was fluctuating, causing the sensor to glitch. Check your power source.
