I've been playing Belote on GameTwist lately, and I keep running into some confusion regarding the bidding mechanics, especially when multiple people try to adjust the score. Does the game follow standard Belote bidding rules, or does GameTwist implement its own system for declaring the trump suit? Specifically, if two players bid high, how is the final bid determined and does the highest bidder always win the right to name the trump? Any experienced players who have played the official GameTwist version could clarify this would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure I'm not losing points because I misunderstood the bidding structure.

It's definitely confusing. I think they simplify it a lot compared to real life Belote.

From what I've played, GameTwist seems to follow a modified standard. The highest bid wins, but the trump naming might be restricted to the initial bidder.

I remember a specific session where two people bid 100 points. The game just let the original bidder keep naming the trump, regardless of who bid higher later. Check the game's help section for specific rules.

Short answer: The highest bid wins. Always.

Are you talking about the initial declaration, or mid-game adjustments? Because sometimes the bidding only happens at the start, and subsequent 'adjustments' are just points added to the score.

I found that if you bid high, you must also declare the trump suit at that time, or you lose the right to name it. It's a package deal.

Seriously, I spent hours trying to figure out the bidding structure. I think the key is that the game forces you to declare trump when you make your initial bid. If you don't, the bid is invalid. Don't assume you can change it later.

Totally agree with this. It's not standard Belote, it's a GameTwist version of Belote. Don't stress about the real rules.

Does the game differentiate between bidding on points and bidding on the suit? I always get mixed up.

It's purely sequential. Player A bids. Player B must either pass or bid higher. The highest number wins, and that player gets to set the trump suit for that round. It's simple, really.

So, if I bid 50, and someone else bids 60, the 60 wins, and they name the trump? Is that correct?

Yes, that's exactly right. The highest numerical bid dictates the outcome, and the winner dictates the trump. It's a clear hierarchy.

I think you might be overthinking the 'adjustments.' Most of the time, if the game lets you adjust, it's just a point modifier, not a re-bidding of the trump suit.

Check the tutorial video if one is available. It usually walks through the bidding process step-by-step. I found that helpful when I was confused.

If you are losing points because of bidding, it's probably because you are failing to pass when you should. Don't bid just because you think you should.

I've found that if you are unsure, it is best to ask a friend who has played it with you. Sometimes the confusion is just due to memory lapse.
