My partner and I are planning a trip to Durant next month and we are really excited about the Choctaw Casino Resort. We are not huge gamblers, but we are interested in exploring the resort amenities. Has anyone been recently and could offer some tips? Specifically, I'm wondering about the best restaurants on site for a nice dinner, and if there are any good non-gambling activities or walking trails nearby. Also, is parking easy to navigate, especially if we arrive later in the evening? Any advice on local spots near the resort would be greatly appreciated!

I went last month and it was great! Since you aren't huge gamblers, focus on the resort's main plaza area. It has a nice, walkable feel and plenty of shops. For dinner, I highly recommend the Italian place; it was perfect for a date night. Also, the resort has a nice pool area that is great for just relaxing and people-watching.

For dinner, you absolutely must try the steakhouse. It's a bit pricier, but the ambiance is fantastic, and the service was impeccable. If you want something more casual, there's a great spot with local seafood that gets rave reviews from non-gambling guests.

Parking is actually pretty straightforward. Just follow the signs for the main garage. Even if you arrive late, there are plenty of spots, but try to get there before 7 PM if you want easy access to the best spots.

If you want non-gambling activities, check out the surrounding nature. There are some lovely walking trails that take you out of the immediate resort area. You might also enjoy checking out the local theater schedule; they often have community events that are fun for couples.

Beyond the resort, drive ten minutes south. You'll find some really cute little local shops and a couple of excellent, non-chain restaurants that serve authentic local cuisine. It's a nice change of pace from the casino environment.

Oh, the Italian place? I heard it's hit or miss. I went and found the seafood spot much better. It felt more local and less 'resort-y,' which I think you might prefer if you are looking for a genuine dinner experience.

Tip: Dress code is pretty relaxed, but for the nice restaurants, smart casual is a safe bet. Don't wear shorts if you plan on eating at the upscale spots.

Aside from the restaurants, the resort has a nice indoor arcade area that isn't gambling-related, and the pool area is huge. It's perfect for a full day of activities that don't involve betting or slot machines. Just bring sunscreen!

The walking trails are actually quite scenic! If you head towards the river access point, the path is well-maintained and offers a nice view of the local wildlife. It's a good half-day outing and much quieter than the casino grounds.

For a perfect non-gambling itinerary, I suggest starting the day with a leisurely breakfast, spending the afternoon exploring the shops and the pool, and then having a nice dinner at the steakhouse. You can cap it off with a walk through the plaza before heading back. It keeps the pace relaxed and fun.

I found parking easy enough. Just use the designated drop-off zones when you arrive. It was busy, but manageable, even in the evening.

If you plan to do the itinerary I suggested, maybe shift the walk to the morning. The evening can get very crowded, and you might find the plaza less enjoyable after the casino lights come on. Try a sunset walk instead.

Check out the historical markers just a few blocks away. They tell a great story about the area's history and are a nice, free activity that gives you a real sense of the local culture, away from the modern resort feel.
