I'm planning a trip to Ruidoso next month and I've heard amazing things about the Inn of the Mountain Gods. It sounds like such a legendary spot, but I'm having trouble finding accurate directions. I'm coming from the north and I'm worried about navigating the local roads, especially if there are any seasonal closures. Could someone who has actually stayed there give me advice on parking or the best route to take? Also, are there any specific local guides or tours you recommend while we're in the area?

Definitely take Highway 20. It's the most direct route from the north and avoids some of the tricky local side streets.

I was there last fall. Parking is actually pretty straightforward. Just follow the signs for the main entrance; they are quite visible from the highway. I recommend calling ahead just in case, though.

The local roads can be confusing. Seriously, use GPS, but double-check the route for any seasonal alerts. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Are you worried about specific closures? Last time I went, the main access road was fine, but they did mention potential snow delays in early spring. Check the local tourism website for real-time updates.

Hey, I found a great local guide called 'Mountain Trails Adventures.' They specialize in that area and can give you a full day tour that includes the Inn. Highly recommend booking them!

Thanks for the tip on the guide! Do they handle transportation, or do I need to arrange my own car?

The main concern is usually the approach itself. If you are coming from the north, try to stick to the main artery roads until you are within a few miles. Don't take the smaller county roads unless you know exactly where you are going.

I agree with the GPS advice, but even the GPS can fail if there's a temporary closure. Maybe call the Inn directly a day before your trip? They usually have the most current information on access.

Parking is a paid lot. Be prepared for that. It's not free, but it's very convenient once you get there. Just follow the signs for the parking garage.

We took a local shuttle service instead of driving ourselves. It was much less stressful and they knew all the shortcuts and potential issues with the local roads. It's a worthwhile splurge!

I think the shuttle is the best option, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. It removes all the stress of navigation and seasonal road changes. Ask the hotel concierge for their recommended shuttle company.

Don't forget to check the weather forecast for the specific day. Even if the roads are open, heavy rain or unexpected snow can make the final approach treacherous.

Just stick to the main highway until you see the big sign for the Inn. Don't trust any unmarked dirt roads. It's a long drive, but worth it for the views!
