I'm planning a trip to Dover soon and I've heard great things about Bally's. I'm completely overwhelmed by the menu and I'm hoping someone who has been has some advice. Are the fish and chips still the must-try, or should I be looking at their seafood platters? Also, I'm not sure about the parking situation; is it easy to get to and is there a recommended time to go to avoid the biggest crowds? Any tips on whether they are better for lunch or dinner would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely go for the fish and chips. They are legendary for a reason. It's the classic Dover experience you should have.

I'd suggest the seafood platter if you're feeling adventurous. They have a lovely mix of local catches that are hard to beat. Just be prepared for a bit of a feast!

Parking is actually quite tricky. I recommend using the main car park near the seafront, but be prepared for a bit of a walk. Try to get there right when they open for lunch, like 11:30 AM, to beat the rush.

Short answer: Lunch. Seriously. The atmosphere is much better, and the queues are manageable. Dinner is lovely, but you'll be fighting for tables.

I found the menu overwhelming too! My tip is to stick to the cod. It's perfectly flaky and the batter is always fresh. Don't worry about the platters unless you're feeding a crowd.

Totally agree about the crowds. If you go late afternoon, say 3 PM, you might catch a lull before the dinner rush starts. It's worth the slightly less busy time for a more relaxed meal.

Are the chips really that good? I heard they are just standard takeaway chips.

The chips are fantastic! They are thick cut and cooked to perfection. Honestly, the quality of the oil and the potatoes makes all the difference. Pair it with a pint of local ale for the full experience.

For parking, try parking a little further up the hill and walking down. It saves you circling the main area, which gets impossible during peak hours. And yes, lunch is definitely better.

If you're really indecisive, ask the staff what their daily special is. They usually know which items are at their absolute best that day, whether it's a specific fish or a platter combination. It takes the guesswork out of it!

Don't stress about the menu. Just order the fish and chips. It's the reliable winner every single time. Trust me on this one.
