Does anyone know if the Excalibur Shop carries good quality replica armor?

I'm looking to buy some gear for a LARP event next month and I've been checking out the Excalibur Shop online. The selection of swords looks great, but I'm really struggling to find reliable information on the armor quality. I've read mixed reviews about the stitching and metal finishing on some of the pauldrons. Has anyone actually purchased armor from them and can vouch for its durability? I need something that looks good but can also handle some moderate action without falling apart. Any tips on what specific items I should look out for would be hugely appreciated.

I bought a chest piece last year. It held up surprisingly well during a big skirmish. Just be careful with the rivets.

Honestly, I'd recommend checking out other vendors. Their stitching quality is noticeably superior to Excalibur's pauldrons. You'll save money and look better.

The basic vambraces are fine. Nothing fancy. Good for beginners.

I had a terrible time with their leather strapping. It started cracking after just two uses. Seriously, look elsewhere for durability.

Did you check their return policy? That might be more helpful than reviews.

I found that the metal finishing is okay, but the underlying material is thin. For moderate action, you really need to reinforce the joints yourself with external padding. Don't trust the shop's assembly alone.

I agree with the rivets comment. They are a weak point.

If you are going for high-impact LARP, do not buy anything from them. Their gear is purely cosmetic. For anything that needs to withstand real hits, you need specialized, reinforced materials. I spent a fortune on a custom set from a local artisan, and it was worth every penny because it actually protected me. I recommend researching local blacksmiths or dedicated armor makers instead of relying on online shops for critical gear. Look for people who use actual boiled leather and proper riveting techniques, not just glued-on pieces. Seriously, your safety and immersion depend on it, so please spend the extra time researching quality craftsmanship rather than just the lowest price point. Trust me on this one.

The greaves are decent. Good value.

Are you talking about the full suit or just the pauldrons? I found the whole set looked great, but the knee articulation was a nightmare to move in.

I think they are fine if you keep your expectations low. They are definitely entry-level gear. Don't expect movie quality, but they won't fall apart in a single afternoon of fun.

The metal paint chips easily. It looks cheap.

I second the point about the rivets. They are definitely a structural concern. Maybe look for a vendor that specializes in historical reenactment gear, as those standards are usually much higher than commercial LARP shops.

Look for reviews that mention specific stress points, like the elbow joints or the shoulder harness. Those are where the quality really shows. I found a local group that recommends a specific, smaller vendor who uses better quality stitching and metal alloys.

Check out the local forums. Someone there posted a detailed breakdown of their failures.
