My partner and I are planning a trip to the city and are very interested in staying at the Main Palace Hotel. We've seen pictures of the grounds and it looks absolutely stunning, but I'm overwhelmed by the booking options and reviews. Specifically, I was wondering if the room rate includes breakfast, or if that is an extra charge? Also, does anyone know if it's better to book directly through their website or use a third-party site like Expedia? Any advice on the best time to visit or what activities are nearby would be greatly appreciated. We want to make the most of our time there.

Definitely book direct. You usually get better rates or free perks like a drink voucher.

I stayed last spring. The room rate generally does NOT include breakfast. You have to specify the 'Breakfast Package' when booking.

Regarding the best time to visit, avoid peak summer season if you want to avoid huge crowds. Spring or early fall are perfect. The weather is lovely and the city is less frantic.

Has anyone stayed there recently? I saw a review mentioning the pool was closed for maintenance. Is that common?

The hotel grounds are beautiful, but be prepared for crowds, especially near the main fountain area. Wear comfortable shoes!

I found that booking through their website and calling them directly was the best method. I asked about a package deal and they gave me a 15% discount that Expedia didn't match.

It is a fantastic base for exploring. The tram stop is right across the street, making it super easy to get to the museum district.

Does anyone know if the local public transport pass is better than just buying single tickets? I'm worried about the costs.

I agree with the direct booking advice. Plus, if you book direct, you can often request specific room types or floor levels, which is a huge plus for couples.

For activities, you MUST visit the Old Quarter market. It's chaotic but absolutely worth it for the local flavor and unique souvenirs. It's a short walk from the hotel.

I heard the restaurant, 'The Grand Bistro,' is amazing. Make a reservation weeks in advance if you plan on eating there.

I'm debating between booking through Booking.com versus the hotel site. Should I worry about third-party fees?

I think third-party sites are fine if they offer a substantial discount, but always double-check the cancellation policy and read the fine print. It's usually worth the slight risk for the savings.

We spent a lovely afternoon just wandering the botanical gardens nearby. It was a peaceful contrast to the city buzz. Highly recommend it.

If you're interested in history, book a guided walking tour. It's much better than trying to navigate the city on your own.

The breakfast situation is tricky. Some people say it's included in the 'Stay Package,' but others say it's an add-on. Call the hotel directly and ask for the full rate breakdown.

Seriously, call them. Don't rely solely on the website's displayed rates. Sometimes they have unadvertised deals for direct callers.

My biggest tip is to pack layers. Even in spring, the evenings can get surprisingly cool, especially if you are walking around the waterfront.

Don't forget to check out the local art galleries. They are tucked away on side streets and are much less touristy than the main squares. It's a great way to spend a quiet afternoon.
