I'm planning a trip to Florida next month and I keep hearing about 'Coral Poker' events. I'm not sure if it's a specific tournament name or just a local term for poker played near coral reefs. Has anyone actually attended one of these? I'm looking for recommendations on which resorts or bars actually host these kinds of events, and if there are any beginner-friendly tournaments. Also, does anyone know if I need a specific license to participate, or is it usually just a cash game setup? Any local knowledge would be hugely appreciated.

I think you might be mixing up terms. It's probably just a local nickname for high-stakes beach poker, not an official event name.

Key West has some great spots. Check out the bars near Mallory Square. They often host cash games, but tournaments are rare unless it's a big resort.

Seriously, check out the Keys Casino in Islamorada. They have dedicated poker rooms and usually host structured tournaments. It's definitely the most reliable bet.

Short trip, casual play only.

I was there last year. The action was fun, but it was more of a backyard setup than a professional tournament. Bring cash and be ready for a good time.

Regarding the license, for private cash games in bars, it's usually fine as long as the establishment is licensed for gaming. Always check local ordinances for the specific county you are visiting.

The Islamorada Casino is your best bet. They run regular events, and they are very beginner-friendly with lower buy-in options.

Does anyone know if the Islamorada Casino requires a membership or if I can just walk in and buy a seat?

Yeah, you can walk in. Just bring ID and some cash. They are pretty accommodating for tourists. Don't worry about the 'Coral' part; just look for 'Poker Night' events.

My friend told me about a spot in Key Largo. It was super laid back, almost like a bonfire event. It wasn't advertised anywhere, which made it really cool. Maybe ask around at local dive bars.

Hey, I'm looking at the Keys Casino too. Are the beginner tournaments really beginner-friendly, or is the skill level high even for the low stakes?

The low stakes are actually quite good for learning the ropes. People are generally there to have fun, not to become millionaires. Just be respectful and read the room.

I heard that the resorts in Islamorada sometimes host special 'themed' poker nights, sometimes calling them 'Ocean Poker' or something similar. Keep an eye on the concierge boards at the larger hotels.

Don't trust the name 'Coral Poker'. It sounds like something from a bad novel. Just search for 'Poker Tournament Keys' and filter by date.

I'd recommend checking out the local community centers or dedicated gaming lounges rather than just bars. They are more likely to have organized, legitimate tournaments with clear rules and structure.

Just be prepared for a crowd. The Keys are fun, but the poker scene is very seasonal. If you go in the off-season, options will be severely limited.

I agree with the Islamorada Casino recommendation. It's the most reliable source for structured play. Also, remember that many of the best cash games happen on weekdays, not just weekends.
