Hi everyone, I'm looking to get into some regular poker nights around the Portsmouth area. I've heard good things about local gaming spots, but I'm not sure where the best community tables are. Does anyone know if there are any dedicated venues or pubs near the Rivers area that host poker regularly? I'm happy to play various stakes, just looking for a reliable and friendly spot to meet up with other players. Any recommendations on specific nights or locations would be greatly appreciated!

You should check out The King's Head. They run a few nights a week, usually starting around 7 PM. It's a proper pub vibe and the regulars are usually friendly. I played there last month and it was great.

Honestly, I'd suggest looking at the local community center schedule. Sometimes they host amateur tournaments that are way cheaper and more relaxed than the big casinos. It's a good way to start if you're new to the scene.

Short answer: The local bingo hall sometimes has poker nights. Check their website.

I used to play at the Waterfront Casino, but they've been really inconsistent lately. The atmosphere feels a bit stale, and the stakes sometimes feel too high for just a casual night out. Have you checked out the smaller, independent pubs? They often have better community feel.

Has anyone played at The Old Mill pub recently? I heard they started hosting a 'learn to play' night last month, which was perfect for beginners like yourself. It's not a massive tournament, but it's very welcoming.

The Waterfront Casino is definitely the biggest option, but I think you might prefer the smaller, more intimate spots. The crowd at the big casinos can be intimidating if you're just looking for a friendly meet-up.

I agree with the Waterfront Casino comment. It's huge. I prefer the pub circuit. I found a group that meets at The Fox & Hound every Tuesday. It's reliable, and everyone there is super chill about different stakes.

Just look for 'Texas Holdem' on Facebook groups for Portsmouth. People often organize informal meetups there before heading to a venue. It's a good way to find out what's happening that week.

Are you looking for cash games or tournament play? Knowing that will help narrow down the best spot. Some pubs are great for casual cash, while others are geared toward big tournament action.

The Fox & Hound is my go-to. They have a dedicated corner and the staff are really helpful. They even have a small buy-in for beginners if you want to test the waters without committing too much.

I'd recommend calling ahead. Even if a pub advertises a poker night, sometimes they cancel last minute due to staffing or local events. Always confirm the schedule!

The community center idea is smart. It's less pressure than a commercial venue. Also, check out the local notice boards at the library; sometimes smaller, grassroots gaming groups advertise there.
