Hey everyone, I'm new to the area and looking to connect with other gamers in the region. I'm mainly into RPGs and competitive shooters, but I'm open to anything. I've heard some great things about the community around NYC, but I'm not sure where to start looking for organized meetups or even just a good local LAN center. Does anyone have recommendations for reliable places where we can gather and play without having to travel too far? Any tips on local Discord servers or Facebook groups for the East Coast area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If you're near NYC, check out The Gaming Den in Brooklyn. They host weekly open-play nights for everything from board games to shooters. It's a reliable spot to start.

I'd recommend looking into local college gaming clubs. Many universities, even if you aren't a student, have open community nights or know about local meetups. It's a great way to meet people your age.

Short answer: Check Discord. Seriously. Search for 'East Coast Gamers' or 'NYC RPG' groups. Those are where the real planning happens.

For RPGs specifically, don't overlook local comic book stores. They often have dedicated gaming sections or bulletin boards where people post about D&D groups needing players. It's less obvious than a LAN center.

LAN centers are getting harder to find, honestly. They tend to close down or move. I found a great group through a Reddit thread for a dedicated private warehouse space that rents out for big events. It's more DIY now.

Hey, I'm in Boston. We used to meet at a bar called 'The Pixel Palace' - they had a dedicated arcade corner and often hosted tournaments. It's a bit old school, but solid.

Do you mean competitive shooters like Valorant or CS:GO? If so, look for local esports viewing parties at bars. They usually have a community vibe and know where the serious players are.

I've been to a few spots. The key is finding a niche group. If you join a specific RPG group, they will introduce you to the local social scene, which is better than just going to a generic LAN center.

I think the best bet is finding a local board game cafe. Even if you aren't playing board games, the people there are usually super into tabletop RPGs and they know the local community.

Reply to the LAN center idea: They are rare now. Instead, look for dedicated co-working spaces that host gaming meetups. They have better infrastructure and are more flexible than dedicated LAN shops.

Check out the 'Mid-Atlantic Gaming Hub' Discord. It's huge and covers everything from D&D to fighting games. People post meetups constantly.

I had a great time at a meetup organized through Meetup.com last month. It was a mix of people, and the organizers were really helpful in pointing me towards some permanent local groups.

I'm in Jersey City. Try 'The Game Spot' near the waterfront. They have a mix of console and PC stations and are very welcoming to newcomers. Good place to test out a new community.

Seriously, ask about local university gaming clubs again. Even if you're not a student, they often have alumni groups or community outreach programs. It's worth the effort.

For RPGs, the best thing is to post a 'Looking for Group' ad in a dedicated subreddit for your state. It bypasses the physical location issue entirely.

Don't just assume NYC is the only place. If you're further north, maybe look at Philly or Baltimore. They have surprisingly robust, smaller gaming scenes that are super tight-knit.

I found a great group that meets monthly at a private residence. It was recommended by a friend who went to a local college club. Networking is everything in this scene.

If you are into competitive shooters, try following local esports teams. They often host community tryouts or viewing parties that are excellent places to meet serious players.

Reply to the Discord suggestion: Yes, Discord is key, but also check local Facebook groups. Sometimes the older, more established groups (like those focused on specific RPG systems) still prefer Facebook for coordination.

I'd say the best place is a local brewery that has a back room reserved for gaming. They often draw a crowd that is already into tabletop gaming, and the atmosphere is much more relaxed than a dedicated center.
