I'm staying at Westgate for a few nights and we're trying to plan a couple of evenings where we want to focus purely on good food and atmosphere, not necessarily gambling. I've seen some recommendations for the buffet, but I'm hoping for something a little more upscale or unique. Does anyone have experience with the Mexican or Italian restaurants there? I want something that feels like a real local experience, not just typical Vegas tourist fare. Any tips on reservations or what dishes I should definitely try would be greatly appreciated!

If you want to avoid the typical tourist trap feel, I highly recommend checking out the local bars near the Westgate that have small, independent kitchens. Sometimes the best food isn't in the main hotel restaurants. Ask around for places that cater to the 'real' Vegas crowd, not just the convention attendees. I found a fantastic little spot that specializes in elevated American comfort food, and it was miles away from the casino floor. It really felt like a neighborhood gem, which is exactly what you're looking for. Make sure to book reservations far in advance, especially for dinner.

For Mexican, definitely try El Charro. It's reliable and the atmosphere is fun without being overwhelming. I went last week and the carne asada tacos were incredible. They have a great patio area, which is perfect for a relaxed evening. Just be prepared for it to get busy, so booking a table is smart.

The Italian place, Trattoria, is fantastic. It has a very cozy, dimly lit atmosphere that screams 'escape.' We had a wonderful time focusing purely on the meal. The pasta selection is huge, and they are known for their fresh ingredients. It felt genuinely romantic and far removed from the flashing lights. I suggest looking at their seasonal specials menu; they change it often and it's always worth the splurge.

I think the independent spot suggestion is better. The hotel restaurants are fine, but they always feel like they are performing for the casino. You want authenticity, and that usually means going off-site, even if it's just a short Uber ride.

The buffet is okay, but pricey.

If atmosphere is key, consider making a point of walking through the Westgate Promenade area before dinner. There are several smaller, non-restaurant shops and bars that give you a better sense of the area's pulse. It's a great way to kill an hour and build up the appetite for a nice meal later. I found that pairing a walk with a cocktail pre-dinner makes the whole experience feel more curated and less 'touristy.'

At El Charro, don't skip the mole poblano. It's rich, complex, and unlike anything I've had before. It's a true taste of Mexican tradition, and the portion size is generous enough for sharing. Definitely worth the trip over.

The Italian place is good, but maybe too loud for a quiet night.

For a balance of upscale and manageable, I'd stick with the Italian spot, but maybe aim for an early dinner, like 5:30 PM. That way, you get the full ambiance without the late-night rush and the noise level spiking after the casino closes. It's perfect for conversation and enjoying the food.
