Anyone used the Merkür X adapter? Need help with compatibility issues

I finally got my hands on the Merkür X adapter after waiting months, but I'm running into some serious issues getting it to talk to my older model camera body. The manual was pretty vague about the required firmware updates, and I've tried flashing the latest version without any luck. I'm getting constant connection drops, and sometimes the screen just goes black for a few seconds. Has anyone here successfully paired this unit with a pre-2018 camera system? Any advice on specific settings or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.
