I've been trying to get back into DTD Poker after a break, but I feel like my understanding of the modern meta has slipped. I remember it being a very dynamic game, but I'm struggling with optimal pre-flop ranges for certain positions. Specifically, does anyone have advice on how to handle aggressive river betting when out of position? I'd appreciate any high-level strategy guides or general advice on tightening up my play. Thanks in advance for any help!

Focus on board texture first.

The meta changes constantly. You need to study GTO solvers for modern ranges. For pre-flop, don't over-commit with marginal hands in the blinds. Stick to a tight, balanced opening range from early position. When OOP on the river, especially when betting aggressively, you must have a credible story. If your story is weak, you are just bloating the pot for value. Consider a mixed strategy of checking and betting based on your opponent's perceived weakness. This is where most recreational players fail.

Check-raise is king.

I think your river betting issue is related to poor blocker reading. Are you considering the cards your opponent might hold when you bet? It's not just about value; it's about semi-bluffing with hands that block their strongest continuing range.

Book a coach.

Regarding OOP river betting, I found that polarizing your range works best. If you bet, you should be either very strong or have a high equity draw. Otherwise, you are just giving away information. Don't bet medium strength hands unless the board is extremely dry and you have a strong read on your opponent's tendency to fold.

Remember to balance your checking range. If you only check your weakest hands, you become exploitable by aggressive players who will know you are weak and will continue betting into you.

Definitely review some advanced poker theory videos. They help immensely with understanding modern equilibrium play.

I agree with the blocker reading point. It's a massive blind spot for most players.

The key is variance management. Poker is a marathon, not a sprint. Don't let a bad run dictate your strategy for the next hand. Take breaks.

Pre-flop ranges are highly dependent on stack depth. Are you playing deep-stacked or short-stacked cash games?

Always keep your opponent guessing. A predictable player, even if they are skilled, is an easy target.

For river betting OOP, if you have a medium-strength hand, consider pot control instead of betting. Sometimes the best play is to let the opponent bluff into a check-call.

Don't forget to study opponent tendencies. Solver theory is great, but reading people is better.

It's all about adjusting your approach based on the table dynamics. If the table is passive, you can bet more often. If they are aggressive, you need to tighten up and only play premium hands.

Short-stacked play is brutal. You need to be highly aggressive and willing to commit chips quickly. Don't play scared.
