Anyone else having trouble with the R16's transmission after 10,000 miles?

I just put 10,000 miles on my Aurora R16, and while everything else feels solid, the shifting has become noticeably rougher than when I first bought it. Specifically, the second to third gear transition feels clunky, and I'm starting to worry about premature wear. I've checked the fluid levels and topped up the gearbox oil as recommended, but the issue persists. Has anyone else experienced this kind of degradation on their R16? I'd appreciate any advice on whether this requires a simple flush or if it's a deeper mechanical issue that needs professional attention.

Don't just top it up. You need a full, professional fluid exchange using the specific OEM blend. Sometimes the filler fluid isn't the right viscosity.

I had the exact same issue after hitting the 8k-12k mile mark. It turns out the shift forks needed minor adjustment, not just fluid. Take it to a specialist, not a general mechanic.

Could it be your transmission mount? Sometimes vibration issues mimic internal gear problems. Check those rubber bushings first.

Rough shifting is often just a sign of worn torque converter lockup clutch. It's expensive, but it's a common wear item on the R16.

Try driving it gently for a few days. Sometimes the break-in period for new components (or just accumulated grime) needs a little coaxing. Don't stress it.

My experience suggests it's usually a filter blockage or a partial seal leak, leading to inconsistent pressure. A simple flush won't fix pressure issues.

Has anyone checked the air intake system? Sometimes vacuum leaks can affect the transmission's ability to shift smoothly under load. Weird, but it happened to me.

I'm worried about premature wear too. Are you sure you're using the correct grade of oil? Some aftermarket brands are way off.

I think you might be overthinking it. Maybe you just noticed it because you were driving it more aggressively lately. Give it a break.

I agree with the torque converter theory. I paid a mechanic to check the internal pressure readings, and they found a slight drop that correlated perfectly with the rough shifts.

Replying to the above: Did they recommend replacing the entire unit, or just the internal seals? Because that's a massive difference in cost.

A simple flush is usually enough if the fluid hasn't been completely neglected. Just make sure the shop uses a high-quality, dedicated transmission fluid, not just general gear oil.

I wouldn't jump straight to mechanical failure. Before spending money, try checking the shifter linkage itself. Sometimes the physical connection point is loose or dirty.

Honestly, I think the R16 transmission is solid. If it's rough, it's probably a driver habit or a minor adjustment needed, not a catastrophic failure.

If you're worried about wear, consider getting a diagnostic scan done. Sometimes the TCM (Transmission Control Module) logs specific error codes that point directly to the issue.

I had this exact clunking feeling when shifting 2-3. It turned out to be a failing synchronizer ring. It's a known weak point on this generation.

To the user who mentioned the torque converter: My mechanic said the pressure was fine, but he cleaned the internal valve body thoroughly. Sometimes debris gets stuck there.

I used a specialized transmission additive and it seemed to smooth out the shifts immediately. It was cheap and surprisingly effective for me.

It's definitely a mechanical issue. I paid for a full internal inspection and they found minor pitting on the gear teeth that needed replacement. Don't ignore the warning signs.

I recommend getting a professional opinion, but also gather photos and notes of exactly when the clunking happens (cold start, hot engine, specific speed, etc.). Details help the mechanic.
