I'm trying to track down a specific vinyl pressing of the 'Cleopatra Classic' soundtrack. I remember seeing it mentioned years ago, but I can't find any reliable seller or even a detailed discography entry. I've checked Discogs and eBay, but the results are very sparse. Does anyone know if this was a limited run, or if there's a specific label I should be looking for? Any tips on where I might find some archival information would be hugely appreciated. I'd love to add it to my collection.

Have you checked the film's original release year? Sometimes the initial pressing details are buried in local cinema archives, not just global discographies.

I remember hearing whispers about it. It was rumored to be a very limited run, possibly only pressed for a specific festival screening. You might need to track down specialized vinyl forums, not just general ones.

Maybe it was a promotional item. Sometimes soundtracks are given to theaters or distributors and never officially released widely. Good luck!

Check the liner notes of any other soundtrack from the same era. They might mention the pressing details or the specific label used for the 'Cleopatra Classic' soundtrack. It's a long shot, but worth a look.

Short. Check the label's physical contacts.

I found a forum dedicated to 70s soundtrack vinyl. They are much more niche than Discogs and might have some archival information. Search for 'film soundtrack collectors' and see what pops up. Be prepared to ask very specific questions about matrix numbers.

Wait, I think I know what you mean. My uncle had a box of old movie memorabilia. He mentioned a small, independent label called 'Nile Echo Records' handling some of the soundtracks from that period. Maybe that's the label you are looking for?

Do you know if the music was composed by a specific artist? Sometimes the composer's personal records are the only place to find details on obscure pressings.

I think it might have been a cassette release first, and the vinyl was a much later, limited re-issue. Try searching for the original cassette masters online; sometimes the vinyl pressing details are listed there.

I found a thread about this! It seems it was only pressed in London in 1985. The key is looking for the specific run number on the sleeve or the inner jacket. It's extremely rare.

Reply to the above: Yes, 1985 London pressing! That confirms it. I remember seeing a photo of that specific sleeve design somewhere, but no details. Thanks so much!

I'd recommend contacting a specialized record grading service or a major auction house that deals with film memorabilia. They often have access to physical archives that aren't digitized anywhere.

It's possible the soundtrack was mixed and released under a different title for vinyl than it was for the film itself. Check for variations in the title listing.

How about checking university library special collections? Sometimes film studies departments acquire promotional materials or original pressings that are cataloged but not for sale.

I'm skeptical that it was a limited run. I think it might have been a standard pressing that was simply poorly documented by collectors. Don't get too fixated on the 'limited' aspect, it might just be a labeling error.

I'm going to try searching the name of the director along with the soundtrack title. Sometimes the director's personal archives hold the key to these obscure items. Fingers crossed!

reply to the above: That's a great idea. The director's personal connection might be the only way to get the true provenance. I'll try that immediately. Thanks for the advice!

I'd suggest looking at international pressings. Sometimes a pressing for a different region (like Japan or Germany) will have different catalog numbers or label details that can help you narrow down the original source material.
