I'm planning a trip to Las Vegas and I'm a huge fan of William Hill's style and the locations he's been in. I was hoping some locals could give me some advice. Are there specific neighborhoods or restaurants that capture that cool, slightly retro, cinematic feel? I'm not looking for a direct filming spot, but more of an aesthetic vibe. Any recommendations for good photo opportunities or places that feel authentic to his movies would be amazing. Thanks in advance for the tips!

You are looking for the retro grit, not the mega-resort polish. Skip the main Strip entirely. Downtown Vegas, especially the area around Fremont Street, has a much more authentic, slightly faded cinematic feel. It's less polished and more character-filled.

I agree with Downtown. Also, check out the area near the Arts District. It has a lot of cool, independent bars and vintage shops that feel very much like a character's hangout spot in a film. Great for photos.

The old casinos off the main drag are goldmines. Look for places that haven't been completely modernized. They usually retain that dusty, neon-lit, slightly forgotten glamour that William Hill's movies thrive on.

Short answer: Fremont Street. Go early in the evening before the crowds hit. The lights and the architecture give it that perfect blend of old-school Vegas magic.

Reply to the Downtown suggestion: I think the character of the bars themselves is key. Look for dive bars with dark wood paneling and sticky floors. They scream 'film set' more than any fancy restaurant.

Have you considered the local diners? The ones that have been there for decades? They often have incredible, unpretentious decor and serve as perfect meeting spots for a cinematic scene. I recommend looking near the Convention Center area, but slightly off the main thoroughfares.

If you want a specific aesthetic, try to find a jazz club that hasn't been updated for tourists. The atmosphere in those smaller, smoky venues is unmatched. It captures that noir feeling perfectly.

I found a great spot near the Golden Nugget that had a really cool, slightly rundown bar. It felt exactly like a scene from an 80s crime movie. Definitely check out the side streets connecting the older casinos.

Reply to the diner suggestion: Absolutely. And don't just go for breakfast. Go for lunch! The lunch rush often keeps the place feeling more local and less like a tourist trap. It adds to the authenticity.

For a different vibe, but still cinematic, check out the unique architecture of the Venetian/Palazzo area, but specifically the non-canal parts. The Italianate feel gives it a dramatic, European flair that sometimes appears in his work.

I think the key is embracing the 'unpolished' look. Don't go where everything is pristine. The slight decay, the mismatched neon, the signs that are peeling - that's where the magic is.

I'd recommend a walk through the area around the Sahara. It has some really older, slightly neglected sections that give it a genuine, lived-in feel. It's far from the glamour, which is exactly the point.

Reply to the Sahara suggestion: That's a good call. It's definitely more gritty. Just be mindful of your belongings, though, as it's less trafficked and more residential in parts.

Don't forget the photo ops! Look for vintage car dealerships or places that still have classic neon signs that are barely flickering. Those details make a huge difference in capturing that retro mood.

I'm going to focus on the local markets. They are full of character and often have unique props or backdrops that feel very cinematic. It's a great place to wander and just absorb the atmosphere.

My best tip is to time your visit right. Sunset in Vegas is incredible, but the golden hour right before the neon really kicks in is when the atmosphere hits that perfect, dramatic, William Hill tone. Plan your day around that light.

If you're looking for a specific type of character hangout, try searching for a speakeasy bar. They are designed to feel secret and exclusive, which always adds a layer of mystery perfect for a film aesthetic.

Overall, I'd say the best vibe is found by combining Downtown's history with the slightly neglected corners of the older Strip properties. It's a mix of faded glory and lingering excitement. Have a blast!
