I'm planning a major trip and I'm torn between booking a high-end stay in Las Vegas or New York City. I've been looking at everything from the Bellagio to the Empire State Building view, but I can't decide which vibe I'll prefer. Is the overall experience of a major Vegas hotel more fun and entertainment-focused, or does the sheer energy and culture of NYC win out? Specifically, if I'm looking for a place that feels luxurious but also has great dining and walkable neighborhoods, which city and hotel would you recommend? Any advice on which trip offers the better overall value for money would be greatly appreciated.

For pure, non-stop entertainment, Vegas wins hands down. The hotels are designed to be destinations, not just places to sleep.

NYC is the clear winner for culture and walkability. You can spend a day exploring different neighborhoods, hitting world-class museums, and finding incredible, unique dining spots. The energy is unmatched, even if it's more 'bustling' than 'glamorous.'

Short answer: NYC. The value in terms of cultural experience and dining variety outweighs the sheer spectacle of Vegas. Stay at The Langham or The Greenwich Hotel for a mix of luxury and neighborhood feel.

If 'splurge' means maximizing the feeling of being pampered and having everything on site (shows, pools, casinos), go Vegas. But if 'splurge' means experiencing a deep, rich city life, pick NYC. It's a different kind of luxury.

I think the key is defining 'fun.' Vegas is fun in a curated, spectacle way. NYC is fun in a spontaneous, human way. For a first major trip, I'd lean towards NYC's energy.

Reply to user 3: I disagree that NYC is always better for dining. Vegas has incredible, high-end dining experiences that are totally separate from the casino floor. The resorts have Michelin-star caliber restaurants that rival NYC's best.

The Bellagio is stunning, but I'd rather spend my money on a nice boutique hotel in the West Village in NYC. It gives you that luxurious feel but puts you right in the heart of the action, making it incredibly walkable.

Don't forget the transportation cost in NYC. Getting around can eat up your budget quickly, whereas in Vegas, everything is generally centralized to the Strip area, making the experience feel more contained and easy to manage.

If you prioritize dining and walking, look at Midtown South or Chelsea in NYC. Staying at The Conrad or The EDITION gives you luxury access without being trapped on a single strip. It's the perfect balance.

I think the 'vibe' is what you're after. Vegas is pure escapism. NYC is real life, elevated. If you want to feel like you're in a movie, go Vegas. If you want to feel like you're experiencing a major global culture, go NYC.

Reply to user 5: Spontaneity is great, but sometimes you just want the planned fun. Vegas makes it easy to book a whole week of entertainment without having to worry about which museum or neighborhood to hit next. It's less decision fatigue.

For value, I'd say NYC wins, provided you stay slightly off the main tourist drag. A hotel in Lower Manhattan gives you incredible access to transit, dining, and culture for a better overall experience.

I'm going with NYC. The combination of world-class theatre, incredible parks, and diverse neighborhoods means you can tailor the trip to your interests, which is better than the one-size-fits-all spectacle of Vegas.

If you are a foodie and value walkable neighborhoods above all else, NYC is unmatched. The sheer density of amazing restaurants and unique shops makes it superior for a luxury dining trip.
