My family is looking at booking a stay at the Marriott Resort in San Juan next fall, and I'm overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information online. We have two young kids, ages 6 and 9, and we want a mix of relaxing time for the adults and fun activities for the children. Could anyone who has stayed recently give advice on what we should prioritize? Are the kids' clubs really engaging, or is it mostly just basic crafts? Also, are there any nearby non-resort activities, like specific beaches or historical sites, that are easy to reach and suitable for little legs? Any tips on dining options that cater to picky eaters would be greatly appreciated!

You are going to have an amazing time! For the kids, the resort pool area is fantastic. The 9-year-old will love the splash zones, and the 6-year-old is usually entertained by the supervised activities. We spent most of our time just letting them burn off energy near the beach, which was the best part for everyone.

The kids' club is surprisingly good, but it really depends on the day. On weekdays, they often have structured activities like arts and crafts, which are fine for a couple of hours. However, on Saturday and Sunday, they usually organize more high-energy games and sometimes even a small tropical scavenger hunt. I'd recommend checking the resort's daily schedule upon arrival, as that's when the best stuff happens. It's definitely more than just basic crafts!

For non-resort activities, you absolutely must visit Old San Juan. It's incredibly walkable, and the colorful architecture is perfect for photos. We spent a morning wandering through the cobblestone streets and found a few small plazas where the kids could run around safely. If you want a beach day, consider Luquillo Beach; it's a short taxi ride and has calmer waters than some of the more famous, crowded spots.

We spent one full day combining history and relaxation. We started the morning by exploring the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, which is huge and gives the kids plenty of space to run and feel like explorers. After that, we relaxed by the resort pool while the adults read. In the late afternoon, we took a short walk through the nearby residential streets to soak up the local vibe. It's a great balance that kept everyone happy without feeling rushed. Just remember to wear comfortable shoes for the historical parts!

The Morro is great, but maybe keep the historical walk shorter. The little legs get tired much faster than you think. Maybe just focus on the main plaza area and let them play there for an hour or two, then head back to the resort for pool time. Don't overschedule the historical part.

I agree about the customizable options. If you want something more fun, try a local spot that specializes in arepas. They are simple, filling, and you can customize the fillings to suit even the pickiest palate. It's a fun, local experience that doesn't feel overwhelming.

Overall, don't feel pressured to 'do' everything. The best days are often the ones where you wake up late, spend time building sandcastles, and then just enjoy a quiet dinner together. The memories you make relaxing are often better than the ones from a packed itinerary. Have a wonderful trip!
