My family and I are finally booking a trip to 83 Resort next month, and we are really excited. We've heard amazing things about the location, but we are struggling to plan our days. Does anyone who has stayed there recently have recommendations for activities that aren't just pool time? Specifically, we are interested in local excursions or maybe some family-friendly sports. Also, knowing the best time to book car rentals from the resort would be a huge help. Any tips on getting the most out of our stay would be greatly appreciated!

You absolutely need to check out the local mangrove tours. They run right near the resort and are perfect for spotting local wildlife, like colorful birds and maybe even some small monkeys. It's a much calmer alternative to the main beach and really gives you a feel for the area's natural side. We spent a wonderful morning there and felt like we were truly exploring, not just relaxing.

Try beach volleyball! The resort has a great setup, and it's super fun for all ages. You don't need to be professional, just ready to laugh and play. It's a great way to burn off energy without leaving the property.

For car rentals, book it through a major national agency like Hertz or Avis, but book it at least three weeks out. Don't wait until you arrive. Prices jump dramatically closer to the date, and you want to secure a good vehicle type for a family of four.

We spent one full day doing a mix of activities. Morning: A guided historical walking tour downtown. Lunch: Local seafood spot away from the resort. Afternoon: Renting kayaks for a paddle out to the reef. Evening: Dinner and a sunset stroll on the main boardwalk. It kept us busy and gave us a perfect mix of culture and nature.

I think the mangrove tour is better than the historical walk. It's more hands-on for kids and the wildlife viewing is just incredible. You'll be talking about the blue parrots for weeks.

Don't forget the local markets. Buy some snacks and souvenirs. It's cheap and fun.

If you are looking for something less strenuous, consider booking a cooking class. Many local resorts offer classes focusing on regional cuisine. It's a fun, educational activity that ends with you getting to eat the delicious meal you helped prepare. It's a great way to bond as a family and take home a new skill. We found the instructor to be very patient and helpful with the kids, making it genuinely enjoyable for everyone.

Regarding the car rental, I recommend comparing prices on sites like Kayak or Expedia, but always check the fine print regarding insurance and airport fees. I booked ours through the resort's preferred partner, and while it was slightly more expensive upfront, they included a complimentary GPS and roadside assistance, which was worth the extra cost of peace of mind.

Overall, balance is key. Dedicate one full day to a major excursion, another day to resort sports and relaxation, and leave a third day flexible for spontaneous local exploration. That mix will ensure you don't feel rushed and you get to experience the best of both the resort and the town.
