I've finally decided to dive into modding this game, but the sheer number of available mods is completely paralyzing. Every search result seems to recommend something, and I'm worried about compatibility issues or simply installing too much at once. I'm looking for some beginner advice on prioritizing. Should I focus on visual overhauls first, or is it better to start with quality-of-life improvements? Any recommendations for essential, highly stable mods that every new player should check out would be greatly appreciated.

Don't try to mod everything at once. Start with a core framework or a single, highly-rated quality-of-life mod. Build your mod list slowly, testing compatibility after every 3-4 additions. Focus on stability over sheer volume initially.

Start with the mod manager. It handles the heavy lifting for you.

I strongly recommend QoL improvements first. They enhance the core experience without changing the fundamental look or feel. Things like better inventory sorting or improved UI navigation are game-changers and won't break anything if you remove them later.

Before you download anything, read the mod's requirements page. Does it need a specific API or a framework mod to function? Compatibility is 90% reading the description and 10% downloading. Always check the mod author's dedicated forum thread for known conflicts.

I agree about QoL. If you are overwhelmed, pick one specific QoL area, like travel or combat feedback, and only look at mods that solve that single problem. Don't let the sheer variety distract you from a focused goal.

Pacing is everything. Think of your mod list like building a house. You need a solid foundation (the core game and essential stability mods) before you can add the decorative elements (visual overhauls). Take your time, and don't feel pressured to achieve 'ultimate modding' status immediately. Enjoy the process of discovery.

Just start small.

If your goal is visual, start with texture packs that are known to be compatible with your game's engine. Avoid massive overhauls until you have a stable base, because they often conflict with each other's rendering pipelines. Incremental visual upgrades are safer.

Always make a backup of your save file and your mod folder before installing anything major. Use a dedicated mod testing environment if the game allows it. This gives you a safe rollback point if a mod combination causes a crash or corruption. Never skip the testing phase.

Thanks for the advice on backups. It's so easy to forget that crucial step when you're excited about a new mod. Do you know if there are any specific tools for checking mod dependencies automatically, or is it all manual checking?

Here is a 'safe starter pack': 1. A comprehensive UI overhaul (for readability). 2. A movement improvement mod (for feel). 3. A stable quality-of-life mod that handles persistent data (like saving progress). These three mods usually work together seamlessly and improve the experience without drastically changing the world.

I think QoL is the way to go.

Those suggestions sound perfect, especially the UI overhaul. Are there any highly recommended alternatives for the movement improvement mod, perhaps something that focuses more on traversal mechanics rather than just speed?

Remember that the best mods are often the ones that feel like they were built into the game originally. Don't chase the flashiest mod; chase the most polished and well-documented one. Good luck, and have fun exploring the modding community!
