My partner and I are moving to Aberdeen soon and are feeling a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of things we need to figure out. We're hoping someone here can point us towards a single resource, maybe a website or a physical guide, that covers everything from local amenities and best places to shop, to local transport tips and recommended doctors. We've heard the 'all in one' concept, but we aren't sure if it exists for new residents. Any advice on where to start, or if there's a community hub we should check out, would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I moved here from Glasgow last year. Honestly, the best thing was just joining local Facebook groups. People share everything from plumber recommendations to the best coffee shops. Start there!

You might be looking for the Aberdeen City Council website. They usually have a dedicated 'New Residents' section that covers everything from registering with a GP to local services. It's a good starting point, but don't rely on it for 'best' recommendations.

Short answer: it doesn't really exist. You have to piece it together. Check out the local library - they often have community resource boards or pamphlets for new arrivals.

I found a brilliant local blog, 'Aberdeen Life Guide.' It's run by a resident and covers everything from walking routes to local butchers. I highly recommend searching for that online. It's much more current than council info.

I agree with the council site suggestion. It's official, which is helpful for things like tax or registration, but it's totally dry and doesn't tell you where the good pubs are. You need a mix of official and community advice.

Have you considered the local university or college? Sometimes their student services department has resources or welcome packs that are surprisingly comprehensive for new people in the area.

Community hubs are key. Try looking up local community centers near your specific postcode. They often host 'new resident' meet-ups or have printed guides that are much more localized than anything online.

The local Reddit page for Aberdeen is surprisingly good for asking niche questions, like 'best local takeaway' or 'reliable plumber.' It's less structured than a guide, but the advice is usually spot on.

Replying to the blog suggestion: Yes, I found it! It was a lifesaver. I especially appreciated the section on navigating the local bus routes. It saved us a lot of stress.

Don't forget to check out local charity groups or community volunteer pages. They often have the best network of contacts and can point you to services you didn't even know you needed.

My advice is to focus on one area first, like your immediate neighbourhood. Get settled there, and then expand your search. Trying to absorb everything at once is overwhelming. Take it slow!
