I finally managed to get down to the casino in Cardiff last weekend, and it was a bit overwhelming! I'm totally new to the whole setup, so I was hoping someone who has been before could offer some advice. Specifically, are there any specific games that are better for beginners, or should I just stick to the slot machines? Also, I'm not sure about the best time to go if I want to avoid the biggest crowds. Any local knowledge would be hugely appreciated before I go again.

Stick to the slots initially. They are the easiest to understand and the risk is controlled.

Definitely try Blackjack. It's a classic game, and knowing the basic strategy gives you a huge advantage over just guessing.

I found the early afternoon, maybe 2-4 PM, was the quietest time I went. Avoid Friday and Saturday nights if you want peace.

Don't feel pressured to play big. Set a strict budget and stick to it. That's the most important tip of all.

Are you thinking about table games or just machines? Because the experience is totally different. If you're nervous, machines are safer.

I agree with the timing advice. Going right when they open is usually less chaotic than late evening.

Watch out for the promotional games. They often look fun but can drain your bankroll faster than you expect. Stick to the core classics.

If you want to try a table game, learn Baccarat first. It's simple, fast, and the rules are straightforward for beginners.

I recommend asking a staff member for a quick rundown on the rules for any game you are interested in. They are usually very helpful and patient with newcomers.

What kind of budget are you planning for? Knowing that helps determine if you should focus on high-payout slots or lower-stakes table games.

I found the slot machines were the best way to warm up. They let you play with small amounts and get a feel for the atmosphere without high risk.

Don't be afraid to walk away if it's too much. It's entertainment, not a necessity. Enjoy the atmosphere, even if you don't play much.

The best time is actually right after lunch, around 1-3 PM. The initial rush has died down, but the evening crowd hasn't arrived yet. It's perfect.

Just remember to take breaks. Seriously, step outside for five minutes. It clears your head and helps you reset your spending limits.

I think the main thing is to observe first. Spend your first hour just watching how others play and what the dealers are doing. It's free research!

Totally agree about the timing. Mid-afternoon is definitely the sweet spot. It's lively enough but manageable.
