I finally got a chance to visit the Big 21 Casino last weekend and had a great time, but I feel like I left some money on the table. The atmosphere is incredible, and the dealers are really professional. I spent most of my time at the blackjack tables, but I'm not sure if I was playing optimally. Does anyone here have experience with the house rules or specific strategies for playing high-limit blackjack? Any advice on managing bankroll or which tables to avoid would be hugely appreciated before I go back.

You really need to look into basic strategy charts if you want to maximize your wins. Knowing when to hit, stand, or split based on the dealer's upcard is crucial. Don't rely on gut feeling. Also, remember that high-limit blackjack often has specific rules (like dealer standing on a hard 17) that drastically change the optimal play. Researching those differences is your best bet.

Set a strict loss limit before you even walk in. Never chase losses. It's the fastest way to empty your wallet, no matter how good the atmosphere is.

I was playing at the River Casino last year and they had a different rule set for blackjack than the Big 21. Specifically, they allowed the dealer to hit soft 17, which is generally better for the player. Have you checked the house rules posted near the table? Those small details make a huge difference in the house edge.

For high-limit play, the psychology is as important as the math. Don't get discouraged by a few losses; treat every hand independently. Also, if you are playing consistently, consider looking into card counting methods, though be warned that casinos are very good at detecting those.

Be careful about the table you choose. Some tables are notorious for having a higher house edge built into the rules, even if they look fun. Always ask the pit boss about the specific payout structure for blackjack.

I agree about bankroll management, but you also need to account for variance. Even with perfect strategy, you will hit bad streaks. Allocate funds for the 'bad luck' period, not just the average session. Don't feel pressured to play more just because you are having fun.

The atmosphere is definitely part of the fun, but don't let the glitz distract you from the actual game. If you are looking for something different, the high-stakes poker rooms can be just as engaging, provided you understand pot odds and opponent tendencies.

If you are serious about maximizing wins, you need a comprehensive understanding of basic strategy, understanding the difference between hard totals, soft totals, and pairs. For example, against a dealer's 7, you should always hit a hard 16. Never stand on it. Knowing these specific optimal moves will give you the best edge possible, assuming the house rules aren't too punitive.

Do you know if they have any specific tables dedicated to players who are serious about strategy? Or if there are any specific times of day when the house edge is supposedly lower?

It's normal to feel that way. The casino environment is designed to make you feel like you could win big, which makes you play longer than you should. Focus on the process, not the outcome. Stick to your initial bankroll plan and walk away when you hit your profit goal, not when you run out of money.
