I spent a long weekend at the Marriot San Juan last month and had a mixed experience. The room itself was beautiful and clean, and the view of the ocean was incredible. However, I found the breakfast buffet to be quite overpriced for what it offered. Also, getting around the immediate area from the hotel entrance was a bit tricky, and I spent more time searching for parking than I wanted to. Has anyone stayed recently? I'm curious if the service has improved or if I'm remembering things wrong. Any tips on nearby restaurants that aren't tourist traps would be greatly appreciated.

The location is great, but parking is a nightmare. Seriously, budget for a valet or a nearby lot.

I stayed last month and agree about the breakfast. It felt inflated. We ended up finding a local spot a few blocks away that was much better value and had authentic food.

I found the service actually improved. We were in a corner room and the staff was incredibly attentive, especially with the luggage. It's a huge resort, but they seem to have upgraded the management since a few years ago. If you're looking for a quiet escape, it's perfect. Just be prepared for the traffic getting into the immediate area, though.

Short and sweet: Go for the view, skip the hotel breakfast.

Totally agree about the parking struggle. It feels like the hotel is situated in a bottleneck area. I recommend renting a car for the day and parking it in a secure lot outside the main tourist zone, then taking a taxi or Uber into the area. It saves a lot of stress.

Replying to the parking issue: Did you try walking a bit further? Sometimes the side streets parallel to the main drag have smaller, less obvious parking options that are cheaper than the official lots. It requires a bit of local knowledge, but it's worth the effort.

For non-tourist traps, check out the restaurants near Old San Juan that aren't right on the main plaza. Specifically, I love a little spot called 'La Cocina' - it's authentic Puerto Rican fare and much more affordable than the big hotel chains.

I think the location is fine, but you need to set expectations. It's convenient for tourists, but if you want a true local feel, you have to venture out. The hotel is a resort, not a neighborhood hub.

The service was okay, but I wouldn't call it 'incredible.' It was standard corporate Marriott service. If you're looking for personalized, warm service, you might be better off staying somewhere smaller and locally owned. The view is the only thing that truly saved it for me.

I disagree that the service hasn't improved. The concierge team was exceptional when we needed recommendations for local spots. They gave us a list of three places that were genuinely local and not tourist traps, which was super helpful. Give them a chance!

My experience was mixed too. The room was lovely, but the breakfast was definitely overpriced. I found a fantastic little bakery and café nearby that was perfect for a morning bite without the huge buffet bill. Just walk five minutes away from the main entrance.
