I'm planning a themed party for my friends and thought a 'Hard Rock Bingo' night would be hilarious. The idea is that when a specific band or song drops, people mark it off their card. I've got some basic rounds planned, but I'm stuck on the song list. Does anyone have suggestions for bands that fit the bill but aren't too obvious? Should I stick to the 80s, or mix in some modern heavy hitters? Any tips on how to keep the energy up during the game would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your rock-solid advice!

Dude, this is genius. You absolutely need to mix eras. Start with 70s foundational bands like early Aerosmith or Deep Purple, then hit the 80s peak with Bon Jovi, and finish with something modern like Shinedown or Foo Fighters. It keeps the nostalgia but prevents it from feeling stale.

For non-obvious suggestions, skip the usual suspects. Try bands like Bad Company, early Motörhead, or even some of the heavier stuff from the early 90s like Soundgarden. Those bands had massive hits but aren't always the first thing people think of when they hear 'hard rock.'

I think you should lean heavily into the 80s. The sheer volume of catchy, sing-along anthems from that decade is perfect for a bingo game. Think Poison, Def Leppard, and even some of the hair metal bands that weren't quite as overplayed. It guarantees high energy.

Short and sweet: Use the 'power ballad' category. It's a guaranteed sing-along moment that breaks up the heavier tracks and keeps everyone engaged.

If you're worried about energy dips, structure the game. Make the first round pure sing-alongs (the power ballads), the second round the heavy hitters (the 80s anthems), and the final round a surprise mix of modern tracks. Also, award bonus points for the best dance moves when a certain song drops!

Reply to the suggestion of 70s bands: I agree on the 70s, but don't forget Led Zeppelin's deep cuts. Using a less famous track from them will really challenge people and make the game feel more expert-level. Maybe 'Bron-Y-Aur Stomp'?

How about adding a 'Tempo Change' category? You could list a song that goes from super slow to super fast, or vice versa. It adds a layer of complexity to the bingo card and keeps people guessing.

Definitely mix it up. If you only use the 80s, people might get tired of the same sound. Throw in some modern bands like Fall Out Boy or even Foo Fighters. They have that raw, high-energy rock sound but feel current.

My best tip for energy is crowd participation. Don't just play the song; give a quick prompt before it drops. Like, 'Get ready to scream this one!' or 'This one requires maximum air guitar!' It builds anticipation.

I think you should focus on the 'Stadium Rock' vibe. Bands like Journey, Foreigner, and maybe even some early Bon Scott era AC/DC. These songs are designed to be massive crowd sing-alongs, which is perfect for bingo.

Reply to the 'Power Ballad' idea: Yes, but make sure the power ballads are actually *good* ones. Not just the ones everyone knows, but ones with a killer build-up. Maybe something from Skid Row or Dokken.

For the non-obvious list, check out early Type O Negative. They are gothic, heavy, and definitely fit the 'hard rock' umbrella but are rarely played at casual parties. It's a wild card that could be hilarious.

Keep a running playlist of the 'best' songs, but don't reveal the list until the end. Make it a surprise element. The element of surprise is key to keeping the energy up, far more than just the songs themselves.

I'd recommend creating a 'Genre Mashup' round. One song that starts with a classic 80s guitar riff but ends with a modern metal breakdown. It forces people to pay attention to the nuances of the music.

Make sure you have a clear scoring system. If someone knows the deep cut, they get 3 points. If they know the obvious hit, they get 1 point. This rewards knowledge and keeps people guessing about what the 'best' song is.

If you want to keep it simple, just stick to the 90s grunge and alternative rock. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden. It's a huge catalog, universally loved, and gives a great, raw energy that is perfect for a party setting.
