I'm planning a trip to Vegas and I'm really hoping to capture some of the authentic New Orleans spirit. I know the Strip has places that try to mimic it, but I'm worried I'll just end up in a cheesy imitation. Does anyone have recommendations for specific bars, restaurants, or neighborhoods where I can feel the music, the history, and the general atmosphere of NOLA? I'm looking for something genuine, maybe a jazz club that isn't overly polished or a spot where locals actually hang out. Any tips on avoiding the tourist traps would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, you're fighting an uphill battle. Vegas is built for spectacle, not authenticity. Your best bet is probably to focus on the music, not the 'vibe.' Look for smaller, less advertised jazz spots off the main drag. Sometimes the bars in the Fremont Street area, while touristy, have better live music than the mega-resorts.

I think you're overestimating how much NOLA you can find in Vegas. The atmosphere is just different. If you want the *feel*, try finding a restaurant that specializes in Creole or Cajun cuisine and just soak in the decor and the background music. It's more about the culinary immersion than the neighborhood.

I recommend checking out the area around the Convention Center, but specifically the smaller, independent restaurants there. They tend to cater to a more local crowd and often have live music that isn't geared toward mass tourism. It's a bit of a trek, but worth it for the genuine feel.

Replying to the previous post: I actually found a really good spot near the Bellagio that wasn't super obvious. It was a speakeasy type bar, and the jazz trio was incredible. It felt intimate and had that smoky, old-school feel you're looking for. Definitely ask for the back entrance.

I disagree with the Fremont Street suggestion. While it's historic, it feels very much like a themed tourist zone now. I found better success at a specific jazz club in the Downtown area that was known for its late-night, unpretentious vibe. It was a bit hidden, which is exactly what you want. You have to walk a few blocks off the main thoroughfare to find it.
